Man sues Wal-Mart over Evanescence lyrics..

Post by Animalor »

This thing reeks of cash grab.

He dismissed Whitcomb's suggestion that Wal-Mart stores didn't know about the censored version of the song. "They are a multimillion-dollar corporation and they certainly can communicate among their various entities," he said
I imagine he hasn't worked in corporporations before but normally the bigger they are, the less they talk to each other.

While having an interest in maintaining some semblance of control over what kids are exposed to, I believe that there is a point where a parent needs to calm the hell down and realize that they can't completely control everything their child sees and hears, nor should they. My guess is the 13 year old has heard worse than that in school, by far.

Yeah, money grab.

Too often it seems it is the peaceful and innocent who are slaughtered. In this a lesson may be found that it may not be prudential to be either too peaceful or too innocent. One does not survive with wolves by becoming a sheep.

Just because you sue someone for some stupid reason doesn't mean you'll win. So... Seeing this lawsuit doesn't surprise me. If they win then I will be surprised.

It also seeks damages of up to $74,500 for each of the thousands of people who bought the music at Wal-Marts in Maryland.

What does it have to do with your state? It's not like the state is the one that filed the suit.

The fact that I live near idiots?

Edit: On second thought, I wouldn't really call them idiots, but more of just people who are afraid that the world may end if their child heard the F-word, because you know outside of music, it's never said.

"I don't want any other families to get this, expecting it to be clean. It needs to be removed from the shelves to prevent other children from hearing it," said plaintiff Trevin Skeens of Brownsville.
I'm assuming these children don't go to public school, because the casual language there is worse than any album.

This is why we need a law that allows the court to say, "ok for wasting the courts time, you not only lose your case, but have to pay for Walmart's attorneys and for the court time."

Then maybe we can get the real cases into court in less then a year.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

Skeens said he and his wife, Melanie, let their daughter buy the music for her 13th birthday and were shocked when they played it in their car while driving home.
fucking tools.

i really dont understand why parents try to shelter kids from explicit language and sex these days. chances are that kids at age 13 and 12 are using the f word with their friends in every other sentance already.

these freako crack-head families are taking things waaaay to far. they want god out of the pledge of allegiance. they dont want religious teaching in public schools. they want gay marriage completely outlawed. they want no trace of anything sexual or explicit. anywhere.

instead of encouraging their children to grow and find out who they are, they want them completely sheltered and isolated from modern culture, whic is completely wrong imo..
i am a liberal.

The f-word used to make people see red. Now it makes them see dollar signs.
Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable, let's prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all. - Douglas Adams

Wallmart doesnt sell cd's with explicit lyrics. At least not in the NW, which is why they have such a shitty cd selection.

So you do agree that there were voting irregularities, and Kerry in all likelihood got 51%! Thanks! =D

they do, however, sell CDs containing bad words. not all CDs containing explicit lyrics come with the sticker or any type of sticker to let the consumer know this contains naughty language.

Pearl Jam is a perfect example.

Maybe if Wal-Mart didnt bang their chest and say " we will censor all music and sell only what is good for our youth" this would not be a issue.
