Guardian vs Berzerker

Post by Akaran_D »

Ok. I really, really can't decide which to pick here. As I understand it, both have access to the Vanguard armor type; skill wise they look pretty balanced. My goal has been to go for Guardian status, BUT, I'm not sure if holding consistant agro is something I'm going to be firmly capable of doing (go fig - could do it fine as a paladin in EQ1, can't do it as a warrior in EQ2).

Any thips would be welcome.

But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

I have no idea what you are doing wrong.
I never ever had any problem holding aggro playing my warrior. Now that I'm playing a cleric, my usual warrior partner never has any aggro problems.

Are you using your HOs?
Taunt, Shout, Assault, Hold the Line and all the other warrior skills available?
Are you grouping with idiots who don't let you establish aggro before they go firing off thier big nukes, AE nukes and high damage HOs?
Is your healer healing you as soon as you engage?

The last two are the main problems, I think, heh.

I do this and I've still never pulled aggro off a tank. Ever.
Our ench got Breeze last night and I was testing how fast I could nuke til I went oom and STILL couldn't pull aggro.

Wierd.
Noticed it got a bit easier last night (lvl 17-18). Part of the problem may have been that I've been grouping with people several levels higher than me up until last night.

guardian=if you like to MT
berserker=you like heavy damage and to tank as well, im going for berserker myself, i like to deal damage and i hear there in the top 3 offensive classes, as well as the 2nd best tank...although for some reason i think the knights would make better tanks

Akaran, Xzion is right. I am going to guardian route, and the aggro manager abilities along with hate increasers we get make guardians THE perfect tank. It's a great class, and I can't wait to get him to 50.

Sounds like on the class boards they are trying to get zerks nerfed since guardians are complaning that they are better offensive and defensive tanks.

I play a zerker and I notice high damage output and have never had aggro taken away from me. I have had most of my success with 2 healers in the group.

I like the zerker, lots of fun so far.

Akaran, do you have App III's or Adepts for your taunting skills? Anger, Shout, Taunting Blow, etc.

That makes a huge difference in holding aggro.

It also helps to have a Swashbuckler in your group that can cast that aggro spell on you. Youll never lose aggro with that thing on you.

I went Guardian after all, Homer.
I can hold agro just fine now, even without adepts.. for some reason, I can never find them for sale. It's getting very annoying.
