Why I'm not on a PvP server
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/threa ... post143574
Not Blizzard's stance, but the player reaction.
I don't believe there's a developer that can implement a PvP system that everyone, or even the majority of people, will be happy with. I don't think it's possible.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
Re: Why I'm not on a PvP server
I have never understood why player faction with NPCs isn't used to apply faction hits for killing PCs. It would be a damn fine way to build a dynamic PvP environment.noel wrote:http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/threa ... post143574

To summarize for those who don't want to read the noobforum...
Before the release of WoW, they outlined their system based on HONOR. There would be Honorable and Dishonorable kills both Player and Non-Player. The levels would be the determining factor.
now they say... honor and dishonorable kills only count for NPC's... no PVP honor system at all, and no penalty for ganking, corpse camping, etc...
I think it's pretty shitty that they failed in their own goal.

You're entitled to your opinion, and I respect that. My take is this: As long as whatever the PvPers are whining about doesn't negatively impact the PvEers, I don't care.Fash wrote:To summarize for those who don't want to read the noobforum...

It's not that I think PvP is bad etc. I just don't think there can be a good PvP system put in place that will keep it from becoming a negative experience.
As far as failing in their goal... Was the fiery avenger quest in EQ1 at release? (just as an example). It's software. Software changes, and reality is not always equal to the requirements document.

I hear ya... this doesn't much affect PvE players, but just for a moment, consider that you had read their Honor system pre-release (it's even still in the printed manual), decided to go to the PvP servers, and now it's more like a UO/Diablo style free-for-all. You'd be a bit peeved.noel wrote:As long as whatever the PvPers are whining about doesn't negatively impact the PvEers, I don't care.

I'm pretty sure that, for the majority of us, the battlegrounds will give us enough PvP to satisfy. No, they are not in yet, but given the quality of the rest of the game, I feel justified in my faith.

What they'd said they were going to do originally sounded workable, and has been done similarly in other games. You'll still get gankers, but once they become KoS to every NPC, and free game for every PC they quickly lose interest and find something else to do.noel wrote:I just don't think there can be a good PvP system put in place that will keep it from becoming a negative experience.

I played on the PvP server since they launched it in closed beta. I am playing on a PvE server now. It started as being fun....the PvP server had ths Horde vs. Alliance edge to it that really played into the Warcraft universe. Then, reality set in.
PvP as it stands right now is primarily gank, or be ganked. 90% of my PvP activities were when I was killing some creature/beast and then WHAM!...I'm dead by an Alliance character at least 10 levels above me. Anyone here who played Horde on PvP will shudder at the word "Hillsbrad". This is a lovely place where Horde & Alliance meet up in the same place to carry out quests side by side...but the Horde players get there ~ level 20, and the Alliance get there ~30. Put those two together, and add the fun fact that all the human NPC's that the horde has to kill for questing are neutral to alliance players, and you got yourself some ganking goodness!
So, no thanks....to PvP for me as it stands right now. From the sounds of that post, it's not going to get any better.

I'm actually truly floored by the amount of people that are playing on PvP servers and the amount of said servers Blizzard has up.
Are all these people refugees from Shadowbane and DaoC looking for a new home? Also, once PvP realities set in with those people, will there be a massive exodus of them to PvE servers?

I was pretty suprised by the amount of PvP servers too. I thought MMOG PvP was considered more problems than it's worth. I appear to have been wrong, and perhaps I also misjudged the amount of people coming from a purely Diablo/WC2-3 background.Animalor wrote:I'm actually truly floored by the amount of people that are playing on PvP servers and the amount of said servers Blizzard has up.

Neither am I. I love the PvP in this game because for me it adds to the adventure of the game. Fear of being ganked at any time definitely keeps me on my toes.Dregor Thule wrote:What PvP experience I've had since retail has been quite entertaining. I'm not regretting my decision at all yet.

Yeah, I have been. Though it didn't do them any good, since I found a good spot to rez. Then I just went into prowl mode and got the heck out of there.Skogen wrote:Have you been corpse camped yet?TheDarkreigns wrote:Neither am I. That works a good chunk of the time....but there are a few spots that suck. The Yeti caves outside Tarren Mill is one of them. You are basically in caves...but there is no way to do the "go ontop of the caves, and res on the outside" thing there. So you run in...go to your corpse. Space is limited, and there are Yeti wandering around. YOu rez, and out pops the rogue who just killed you 3 minutes before, and does it again!. Puss.TheDarkreigns wrote:Yeah, I have been.
