Scary Movies

Ok, Jeepers was pretty damn good up until the teens decided to go to the tunnel thingy to check it out. After that, it was as if the filmmakers just gave up. A REALLY good idea that slipped off of the rope swing right into the mud during basic.

After mowing down 30-40 undead with a lawnmower strapped to your chest, it is hard to come up with good content these days....

Original Halloween still is scary, the second was ok. Friday the 13th part one was campy scary, before all the gore and stupidity of the 300 sequels.
Same way with Nightmare on Elm Street part I.

First 15 minutes of Scream was scary the first time I saw it at the movies, I was dating some guy that was scary enough as is, then he takes me to see this movie.

In recent years, I haven't seen a really good horror flick, I think Hollywood tends to forgoe anything involving a plot or something that makes remote sense and is scary in favor of blood and gore, anything bloody enough is scary I guess?

There is one movie I remember being kinda scary, but I cannot remember it too well, or the title. All I remember is that it involved dead people, the ending took place in London, and I remember a big church looking building with all these dead people and this big white floodlight in the middle of the room, anyone have any idea what movie that is? I've always wanted to see it again, but can't even remember much about it.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned Dawn of the Dead. Cult classic.

The Shining has already been mentioned, but it's still a good scary movie. If you wan't your girlfriend (or your LAN party buddies) clinging to you for the rest of the night, that's the one to get.

There's a heap of B horror flicks that are really good - however I'd have to actually walk into a video store to tell you the titles. THe joys of working in a video store for 3 years is that you got to see a lot of the ones you usually wouldn't rent.

Well, really all 3 of the Romero films were great: Night of, Day of and Dawn of. I admit, I am a zombie movie fan though...

As for classics, though, I forgot to add:

Dario Argento's Suspiria
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Hills Have Eyes
Last House on the Left
Serpent and the Rainbow (a bit slow at parts, but damn spooky voodoo flick)

One movie that had no blood n gore was Sixth Sense.

At the end when Bruce's wedding ring rolled across the floor, I have never been that freaked out in my life over any other movie. Luckily for me I was alone at night, and in the dark when I saw it...I could not have asked for a better setting to view this movie. I actually gasped out loud as my hair stood on end on that scene. Very good.

No, but it WAS one of those moments where I was glad I was alone, kinda like the first time I watched John Q.......that movie will punch you in the chest, especially if you have kids of your own.

Another one without excessive gore that worked for me was Exorcist III. The enshrouded figure darting across the hall with the headchopper tool was a great image. And Brad Dourif's (Wormtongue in Two Towers, btw) rants in his cell were great stuff.

Everyone I know that has seen the ring said it was a really good movie. Same about Ghostship. One thing that suprised me was how many people liked in the mouth of madness, I was so bored 5 minutes into that movie that I turned it off and went back to Blockbuster to ask for my money back. I saw someone mention the gate, that movie scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.

a movie called "Watcher in the Woods?" I believe it was a Disney film, oddly enough. But when I was a kid, that movie scared the bejesus out of me. I recall a scene involving a mirror, and the girl sees all this freaky and/or horrible stuff in the reflection. I had nightmares for years after that, and that mirror figured very prominently in my dreams even as an adult.

In recent years, the only really frightening image to haunt me from a movie was the chick with no eyes in Event Horizon. Yeah, the movie itself was crappy overall, but that eyeless red-haired girl was bonechilling.

Oh, and the de-lousing scene in Super Troopers. No one needed to see Farva's meat-and-two-veg.

Would have to say Dagon for scariest movie ever. It combines two of H.P Lovecraft's stories, Dagon and The Shadow over Innsmouth. It's beyond amazing to say the least

Pet Cemetary was one of the movies that freaked me out. Watching Gauge come back and slice open everyone was eerie 'cause he was such a cute kid. Also, his sneaker rolling around on the highway was just disturbing

The Fog was a good movie too. Even though it isn't horrorific, Jaws was a great movie when it first came out. I remember not wanting to get in the water even though it was a lake and not an ocean.

Ack I've entirely missed this one!!!...While I have never liked any Lovecraft adaptation to date, I hold out hope that some day the good one will be made...

But I did like Cast a Deadly Spell and Witch Hunt which borrowed copiously from the writings of H.P.L. and included him as a character...

I just finished watching Mothman Prophecies. I don't know what to think about it actually. It didn't make me scared nor excited and it was slow enough to nearly put me to sleep but I had to see if this thing had any kind of ending. I guess overall it was so-so. I am glad I didn't see it in the theatre.
