Selecting VV Servers - How to get organized as a group

Post by Lalanae »

Tuesday is release and some folks will be going PVE and some PVP. To prevent everyone being on different servers like the EQ2 folks (unless you want to be on a different server on purpose :P) I think it would be a good idea to come to this board BEFORE creating your character and see which servers are selected as the VV PVE and PVP servers.

Ok now that I've put the cart before the horse, how will those servers be selected since we don't have a server list yet (and may not till that day)? Any ideas?

Maybe we do a first-come sort of thing where the 1st person to get their account activated and create a post here in this forum (with a very clear, obvious title too please) selects the servers?

I could care less what server is selected as long as I'm with the largest population of VV-ers.

Ideas, opinions, etc., please!

Would be nice if Blizzard would release the names of the production servers. It would make things a lot easier.

They announced that they will not be releasing the server list for extremely stupid reasons. I say East Coast, last server alphabetically for both PvP and PvE.

When server names are not released, it is usually a good idea to go with things like:

Last server (PVE or PVP) alphabetically, EST (or whatever time zone).

Just a suggestion

From a networking/performance standpoint, I don't think it will matter if someone on the West Coast plays on the East Coast server, BUT... I really think any server we 'all agree to play on' should be central.

Drolgin has a point, but weren't all EQ servers located in Cali anyway? I don't see a real problem other than the fact that Vivendi is being cocks about the whole Euro/NA segregation thing.

Is there a way for us to like setup some bogus e-mail addys for euros to use to register? Or are they seriously going to try to block IP ranges?

true, we will all be in different time zones, so it doesn't really matter which one we pick tbh. I dont care, we just need to agree on one by Tuesday.

There will always be someone unhappy with whatever decision is made :(

What we need to do is host a US based VPN server for the Euros to come out of. This is assuming that Blizzard is serious about blocking IPs. If they're not, we'll just have to work out a billing system with our Euro friends.

Hmm what about the 10 day gift passes that collector's editions come with? Could those go to our euro buddies so they would have a North American account right as the US retail starts...then those accounts could be updated with an American version retail cdkey and they could continue playing that account? Just brainstorming here, no idea how the accounts would work... :)

Sounds like a plan to me

Still would be nice to hear a list of servers before we join....Maybe that person that gets WoW first would write down the server list and post it.

Well, talked to my friends, and they want PvE and a west coast server, so I guess I won't be seeing you all. Unless you all want to be gnarly rad dudes and come to west coast server just beacuse you love me so much, which I know you all do... Right?

I think we should go Central. East and West seem to fill up pretty quickly. It really doesn't matter since the servers are located in CA.

Actually, apparently not all the servers are in CA. Some of them were knocked out from a tornado hitting the building they were at in Virginia I think?

Yeah, they had pictures in the po-dunk town's newspaper that the data center is in.

Looked like the florida buildings, one huge whole in the wall, that apparantly someone let their pet elephant go, and that elephant decided to walk thru the outer wall.

I say we all play on the Hyjal server, I believe it will be a PST server I'm also pretty sure that the PST servers will be the fastest.

I'll defiantly be goin Hyjal ;)

I'm also gunna go Horde

PS. Hyjal will be a PvE server NOT a PvP server. So keep that in mind when choosing. If ya got no love for the PvE in WoW that’s cooo but it would be down if we were all on the same server.

The way it looks there will still be some PvP even on the PvE servers, in a DoAC type sense so I'm good with PvE and with that server as well, count me in, I was just looking for someone to make a decision :)

OK well, PvE folks seem to want to go in different directions, but I won't worry myself about that from here on.

PvP Horde Folks,

I say we stick with last alphanumeric server in CST as a plan, unless someone has a reasonable objection. Some folks seem to have time zone preferences (I don't), so if you are dead set against CST (or any other time zone) make a post!

out of curiosity, do you have some kind of info that the PST servers will be faster or is it just a theory?

Because they will be run by Blizzard and not farmed out to a data center in some po-dunk town in WV? That's just my theory.

I'm going last alpha pve server in Central, you all should too!
