First off, I don't want 84 different threads on Halo 2, so all spoilers (use tags), rants, raves will be posted here.
Also, since H2 is Live enabled, I say we should get a vv thing going on it. Sure, I could have waited a few days to post this with more solid information, but fuck waiting, I want to play now.

Yeah, this should be some really good stuff. The only thing that has me concerned/worried is the lack of "health". A friend and I were imagining how well a SMG/Plasma Rifle combo would work as one eats shield like mad and the other rips apart health. Then it dawned on us that there is no more "health" which made me wonder wtf the difference is between plasma and projectile weapons. In the original I really liked the variation between plasma and human weapons...Oh yeah, and I heard that the new sniper rifle has kick-back on it so you have to re-adjust your aim after each shot with it.
I read the review for this over at Gamespot. It got a 9.4 which is what I expected. Pretty much it's going to be an awesome game. The one thing that bothered me though was that they said it took about 10 hours to complete on the default difficulty level... what the hell is with games being so short nowadays? It can't be that hard to find ways to increase the playtime on something like this. I loved Halo, and I liked that fact that it was a long campaign. Yes there was some backtracking and sometimes there were parts that could be a bit monotonous, but I really enjoyed the fact that I knew I couldn't beat it in 1 or 2 sittings.
If this game really is only about 10 hours of gameplay, I'm going to be highly disappointed!

It's about multiplayer!
I thought the first Halo solo campaign was very well done but I'm sick of killing bugs. Buy Halo2 if you like online fragfests. All the reviews I've read focus on multiplayer so that's the area you should expect to get the most enjoyment out of this game.
If you are looking for a copy of this game, I'd say check out Walmart. Was at the mall at the Gamestop where a friend pre-ordered a copy. Showed up at 11:30 for the midnight release, looks to be about to be 3 before they get a copy. At Wal-mart another friend went in, no pre-order, got his copy by 12:30 or so. Dirty bastards.
Waited an hour and half in line at midnight, got back around 2 am and realized my xbox at home was broken . I'll finally get to play it after class today.
Holy fucking shit this game owns. Haven't played the singleplayer yet, but will probably check it out tonight. As previously mentioned this game is all about multiplayer, and it shows. I have never played a better game for multiplayer, and that goes all past console games and into pc games.
Graphics, gameplay, weapons, vehicles, levels are all too cool. The only question I had about this game is why it took so long. They basically just repackaged halo 1 and upped the multiplayer aspect of it and added new guns and HUD. If you own an x-box, get this game.
I will check out x-box live soon and try to get a vv game going. I'm playing on a multi-linked system atm and need to go out and buy a headset, then will be good to go.
the MP is nice, but I was kind of pissed at IGN giving it a 9.8 - they are sucking it's cock majorly.
I can't agree that it lived up to expectations as the single player (to me, at least) is a pretty big letdown. Way short. We downloaded it last week and beat the campaign on Heroic in 3 days without playing all that much (~10hrs). They cut off the story just when it gets decent.
Yeah, just started playing the single player and it seems nothing more then a continuation from the first one, aside from a few new weapons and the duel wield...then again when everybody puts such high expectations on a game your bound for a letdown

-zeltharath tauren shaman on wildhammer
To be honest I think Halo 2 has a lot more changes than I thought. I was expecting almost an exact duplicate of Halo 1. Multiplayer is so much faster I got a headache today trying to keep my reaction time time its lowest and trying to remember the new maps. Co-op and campaign I hear is harder than Halo 1, but I have yet to play it.
I played it at a friend's house and was unimpressed. I didn't even know I was playing Halo 2 until he told me, I thought it was the original. I was never a huge fanboi, so maybe my opinion is skewed. If it only has 10 hours of single player gaming, that is a crime.
Spent about 6 hours last night playing it co-op with a buddy. Some changes I like, some changes I'm not fond of. Never underestimate the plasma sword. The carnage possible with this baby is unreal.
The ambient noise and the comments and smack from the Marines are funny as hell. And some of the cut scenes had me rolling with laughter. I don't rate myself as a fanboi...but I'm definitely enjoying the game.
I haven't tried multi-player outside of campaign co-op, but anyone know if you can co-op via system link this time around?
High Chancellor for Single Malt Scotches, Accounting Stuffs and Biffin Greeting.
/tell Biffin 'sup bro!
Hooked up two XBox's last night to a System link game then proceeded to play for the next 5 hours of non stop multiplayer action.
A nice addition is the ability to have more than just 2 teams fighting eachother. You can have up to 8 teams of 2 people MAX in a system link game (i.e. 4 XBox's) We had 8 people and were having a blast switching teams.
Another nice feature is you can change profiles in the game, instead of having to have everyone back out so you can add another player.
I was slicing the shit out of everyone with the plasma sword lunge. There's nothing like hearing people scream at you from another room when you instantly nail them with that hehe.
Other interesting thing I've heard about the XBox Live system play is that when you're talking on your headset, closer players to you in the map actually are louder when nearby in the game, and sound far off when further away from you. And on the other side, when an enemy player is nearby, you can start hearing their speech in the headset as they approach...way too cool!
If you haven't got this game for your XBox, what the HELL are you waiting for!!

The singleplayer isn't going to wow someone who's played the original Halo. I did like the atmosphere of the game. The AI, sounds, etc from the enemy and allies worked well. The physics are improved...sort of Half Life 2ish. I'm not a big on bug killing games though. Killing humans feels much more satisfying.
Not to repeat myself but this game is about the multiplayer and COOP is also a step above other games.
I still feel more comfortable on the PC playing it though. I can't aim worth shit using the controller compared to the a mouse. Halo 2 PC version in a year will take care of any multiplayer FPS urges I get.
The game is well worth it if you want it for multiplayer on XBox Live or COOP.
me and a few of about 3-5 other friends played halo pvp pretty regularly and had been anticipating it for some time
some initial reactions were:
wtf, no health?!
no directional arrows when getting shot
holy shit thats a big jump!
other than that i was expecting OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of the changes
from what it seems to be, they made the weapons almost equal(the pistol, in a well aimed hand was the deadliest weapon, period in halo1), i havent even used the pistol in halo2
the maps are also a completely different style, much more campaign like in layout/size, i do miss the 'niche' maps like chiron, boarding action, hangemhigh etc.., i hope they bring some shit like that on the live side
one thing that bugs the snot out of me is the 'logging' into the game at the main screen, as in, if you pick your profile , play a game, but then your gonna sit the next one out, (so a bud can play)you have to back all the way out, otherwise your profile is autoselected at the picking screen, annoying
that end game stats are also fucking awsome as well, more to gloat about
The pistol is still the own. I was raping my buddies with it last night (dual pistols is almost wrong). I am also quite fond of the battle rifle.
We (my buddies and I) agreed that the sword is the gayest thing ever concieved in a game. That kill shot lunge is just plain stupid. Only the rocket launcher and shotgun stand a chance going up against that thing.
sword lunge is not stupid, but it is fucking overpoward!
turn off motion sensor and people that use it will have less of a chance
so much fun with that thing, played a slayer match and got 25 kills in under a minute, 6 kill streak in like 5 seconds
eh? i got him off of Magnum PI or more humorously, a few family guy scenes. anyways, getting cord and everything later tonight, should be on tonight or tomorrow.
I was pretty disappointed with this game to be honest. Now, I have not played the multi-player and I know that's what Halo 2 is all about. Speaking solely about the campaign mode, I was not too impressed. Yes, it was fun, and there were some pretty cool parts, but I think the original Halo was MUCH better than Halo 2. The original's envirnments were a lot more varied, it was more immersive, and to me they looked better. The vehicle battles in Halo 2 where about the only thing that really got me excited. That and being able to be the covenant. That was pretty cool. I can't decide if I should hang onto this game and wait until I get Xbox Live in a few months, or if I should just sell it on Ebay.
