A week ago my friend put a burned DVD-R in my dvd player. My dvd player did not play it. Since then, my DVD player has decided to not play anything else either, every time you put a cd in it informs you that there is no CD in it.
So questions:
Does anyone happen to have a magical fix for this?
If not ...
Would putting a burned CD in there violate the warranty? Translation - If I want to return it for a new one since it's broken should I tell them I put a burned CD in to help them fix it or should I just say it stopped working?
It's a player built into a tv so it's pretty annoying

and express your concern that this retail location stand behind the products that they sell, as it would certainly encourage their valuable customer base - in a time where retail sales are low - to continue ones relationship with them. etc.

I'd be curious to see links to such articles. I could see firmware refusing to play it but to actually kill the hardware would be going a bit too far.
Don't really recall where I saw that info, other than it was back nine months to a year ago while I was researching a presentation on data security when I came upon the info. I recall it was a side note in a story on antipiracy measures for commercial software (dongles, etc). I don't have a link handy
Doesn't exceeding the allotted number of viewings (3?) with a different region DVD render the player unusable?

DVD-Rs are sometimes harder to read than factory burned DVDs but I've never heard of any firmware designed to permanently disable a DVD player if bootlegs are played.
Will Windows XP be frying my motherboard next release? : )
