Nah... Australia has 5 states (all of them bigger than Texas), 2 territories.
I throw the thing in about Texas because it's comical to see their egocentric view of Texas being "big" as it's the biggest state in their over-segmented country.

Akaran of Mistmoore, formerly Akaran of Veeshan I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

The size isn't the reason why Texans are proud or as you put it egocentric about the state. In point of fact Alaska is bigger than Texas. I could attempt to explain why we are so proud of the state, but that's a whole other thread .
In any case in the transcripts from the tapes, in the context, it seemed like he was referring to state in the national sense. It could have just been the translator's choice though.

Most Texans haven't been outside the state to compare it to anything!

Although that doesn't apply to me specifically, it's probably true (Hell, it takes me a minimum of 4 1/2 hours of driving just to get out of the Texas!). Anyway. I am quite proud to be a Texan, I guess I was just raised that way. Very few states in the U.S. seem to garner a great deal of pride from their populations[1]. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
