poll: Amendment 28-

Post by hithere! »

3rd option: Make it an option on the ballot that does not count. However, still allow the person to vote for either of the candidates. Display how many people voted none of the above next to election results.

Strap on Bullshit deflector cap.
Site merely to tell you what the amendment would be.

Looking at both sides and comparing and making decisions; I have regrettably come to know that I don't like either side. I know, this comes up all the time and the cookiecutter response is to choose the lesser of the two evils. However, it is really hard to actively vote for which ever one you hate least. With all the campaigns to get young people to vote ("Vote or Die", "Rock the Vote"), it just seems like there should be better incentive to vote rather than the latest popstar saying it's cool. Does this not weaken the power of the vote when we are told to just go vote, no matter what your reason?

When the president fucks up, I want to be able to defend him, not just wish I had weighted my stance on such-and-such deferently so I had voted for the other guy. I appreciate when real leaders come forward with strong feelings (Rev. Al Sharpton- though I wouldn't vote for him- he spoke for what he believed, not what would win the election.) I would be more satisfied with a vote if the poll numbers weren't 50/50. I guess it boils down to I would be more satisfied if we had more candidates with a larger array of stances. This may never happen, but showing how many people of the election voted for the lesser of the two evils right next to the election results would be interesting.

Although I agree with the Libertarian party, it is mostly throwing away the vote. I know some states don't even list the party on the ballot. And I know a few people would would like to vote Libertarian but vote for another party just so the other party doesn't win. bullshit sources
Convention Rules of the Libertarian Party
RULE 11: NONE OF THE ABOVE
Votes cast for "None of the Above" in voting on the Party's nominees for President and Vice-President, the Party Officers, and at-large members of the National Committee, shall be considered valid. Should a majority of the votes be cast for "None of the Above" in the Presidential or Vice-Presidential balloting, no candidate shall be nominated for that office. Should "None of the Above" be selected for any Party office, that position shall be declared vacant and none of the losing candidates for that position may be selected to fill the vacancy for that term of office.
I understand the slippery slope we could get into if the amendment the website wants were fully instated. (only core party followers voting for the actual party and over 50% voting for none of the above, may never happen but would suck if it did.) But this seems the only option next to reforming the entire system to include more candidates and more diversity in options of voting.

If the elections ever came out in say a 40, 30, 30 split, 60% of americans wouldn't get what they wanted (or 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 for that matter-70% lose) . But I would rather lose an election with a candidate I fully supported (thus making my vote 'count') than win an election with a candidate I chose through a complex decision matrix. On that tangent- i never really understood how people get really fired up about elections. It always seems like its an exercise in chance with how close the votes get. For every person with 50 bush signs or omfg, theres another person voting for the opposite candidate because his daughters are hotter.

PS~ Why is it ok to vote on one topic (ignoring the other stances)? To me that seems almost as bad as not voting, simply because you don't want to research the topics. MTV has a comercial where they have random people walk up and state one reason they are voting and they have a counter in the background counting up to 20million. All this is doing is adding a chance factor into the voting and the more people that vote on random shit the closer the race will be.
