Release Dates ?
Release Dates ?
Okay so according to amazon.com, WoW is going to be released on November 15th. But for us in the U.K/Europe amazon.co.uk says its being released Feb 2005, as with most games theres a delay while its shipped over-seas.
Is there a reason, that if I got a copy of WoW, from amazon.com, that it wouldnt work for me in England?

It could be that the only purpose for your every existence, is to serve as a warning to others.

Blizzard is setting up international servers and assigning players to them by billing information entered. Even if you bought a copy from the states, as soon as you put in european billing info, you would get assigned to the EU servers.
I think they plan on making concessions for letting EU players on US servers eventually but I have no idea when this is going to happen.

Re: Release Dates ?
I would guess that you must have an American or Canadian billing address to play the US version on a US server.Cotto wrote:Okay so according to amazon.com, WoW is going to be released on November 15th. One of the most anticipated PC games of the year now has a launch date.
"World of Warcraft," the online world game from the makers of the incredibly popular "Warcraft" strategy game series, is scheduled to launch the week of Nov. 22, the Free Press has learned.
Most stores have predicted Nov. 15 would be the launch date for "World of Warcraft," guessing that Sony Online Entertainment's behemoth "Everquest 2" would come out on or near the same day. But Phil O'Neil, president, North America, of "Warcraft" publisher Vivendi Universal Games, said the game will actually launch a week after the company's other hot holiday title, "Half-Life 2," which debuts Nov. 16.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

WoW is defiantly gunna be in stores Nov 15th, and from the looks of it EQ2 is gunna be in stores Nov 9th. How the fuck Sony thinks that EQ2is ready for release is beyond me. After playing that shit for a week now I can say with absolutely no doubt in my mind what so ever that EQ2 is no where NEAR close to being ready for final release. EQ2 needs like another 3 months of beta minimum. Hell I think WoW need another 2 months of beta before its ready too but oh well... I guess were gunna see just how fast the devs can finish the game on the fly before characters hit max level.

So much for the Detriot Free Press.10/26/2004 4:03:04 AM GMTDT wrote: I did not delete your post and as such am unsure about what subject you're referring to. One patch to rule them all and in darkness bind them.noel wrote:I thought that was a little odd.
Is this thing ready to be released yet? Brittney kind of touched on it, but how many more weeks/months does this thing need?
There are two classes without full talents. It would be nice to see some final polishing to many of the classes to give some minor finishing touches before release. They have to add more content for Horde areas as there is a measurable gap between Horde and Alliance. There are some annoying pathing bugs, like where mobs are frozen in place but can attack you as you run away but you can't damage them. There are a few animation bugs associated with their rework of the animation, such as the fact that when I use Mind Flay I am stuck with the glowing animation until I log out and I don't visually wield my staff anymore. There are a few areas where the content is not in yet, and we do not know the state of the raid areas (might be done, but who knows?). They could do with adding some more flight paths. They could do with adding more tradeskill recipes. They could do with adding more items and unique equipment graphics.
Overall, the game is in fantastic shape and the open issues are relatively minor. I suspect that one major patch before open beta is all we are going to get, and one or two patches during open beta. Release day will likely include one more patch and I suspect that the release version at the point will be in fantastic shape.

It could be released after one more patch - they would still need to add content, but at the rate they're getting stuff in, I think the game would be "finished" in less than 2 months.
I stopped playing a while ago though, but still pop in from time to time. After 5 years of these games, eh. Still for anyone fairly new to the genre, it will be as good as the hype. Blizz did an incredible job (except when they took out the gnome strip tease dance, wtf).

They are still tweaking talents and spell lines, so still a fair amount of core mechanics to be worked out.

My biggest gripe right now is the downtime without and real status updates that have been occuring the last few days. Seems like when primetime hits, the DB servers have a fit and character information is unavailable.
They've already said that the patch wasn't gonna be this week so most likely next week or the one after that.

Blizzard is not going to race with $0E to release first. I think that they know that a lot more than initial box sales are going to make or break WoW.

I've read a few articles that it's going to be either Nov. 15th or 22nd for sure. I don't know how "finished" the game is, but I figure its worth a shot. Even if I'm totally f'ed the first couple months of my play, I'd love to give it a shot, I guess I'm kinda used to it in online gameland.

Its purely about marketing at this point. The people with the business degrees have control of both games now that they are "close" to finish. Though I have not played EQ2 I get the feeling that WoW is closer to finish. Wow could use a good month or two of testing.
I think that open beta will start this coming week and WoW will shoot for the same week release as EQ2. Sony vs Vivendi! Its fight club!

Isn't it ironic that EQ2 is being released first?Skogen wrote:SOE loses.
