Just wondering what folks are playing WoW on and how well it runs on various systems.

Athlon 2200+, 1GB DDR400 RAM, GeForce 5700 Ultra 128MB video card....it runs with no problems. I have been told it will run on a 450MHz, 256 RAM, GeFroce 2 machine. Obviously with some things turned off/down though.

Running it at home on a Athlon 1800+ with 1GB ram and a GForce4 TI4200.

Runs beautifully at 1024x768 with mostly everything turned up to maximum.

I am running an OC'ed P4 2.4GHz (2.8, I am conservatively overclocked), 1Gig of Corsair XMS, and a 9800 PRO 128. It runs beautifully with high settings (no bloom) at 1280x1024.

The animations look great (e.g. trees swaying in the wind, birds flying, movement, spell effects, combat animation, etc).

Could be worse, you could be in Europe and not get Open beta for fifty million years after you yanks!
It could be that the only purpose for your every existence, is to serve as a warning to others.

I played during stress test on a 1.9 GHz Athlon, GF4 4600, 1 GB slow RAM system, and it ran very smoothly, even during this one PvP session with about 50-60 people running around Mulgore killing each other.

They are still at least 2 weeks from open beta. There are a number of fairly big things they say are going in before open beta.

I'd be curious to see how someone with low specs are able to play the game.

If you go by Tyren's post in https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/thread. ... d#blizzard
I think it'll be at least 3 weeks before signups even start.

Given that this is blizzard, I don't think they'll make the holiday season release at all.

I have a Dell pentium 4 with 256 RAM and 2.4 speed, but my graphics card is teh suck. The sky is choppy and I lag hard in big cities. Next week I'm gonna upgrade both graphics card and RAM.

The good thing about WoW, from what I heard from other people, is that the game responds well to having more RAM thrown at it.

Are you in the regular beta, Xyun? I'm interested if just upgrading your RAM will improve game performance...

I've been in closed beta for a couple of weeks but the extreme lag I get in crowded areas makes it tough to want to play. The other day i tried to take the zeppelin from orgrimmar to undercity, I lagged through Org and when I finally made it on the zeppelin, I lagged hard... as I zoned over, my computer took forever to load so when it finished loading the zone, the zeppelin had left UC and was heading back to Org! Load screen again. It took even longer to load this time and I got annoyed enough to just reboot. Lag subsided after reboot but not before I made 2 round trips on the freckin zeppelin. Had some group members waiting for me and i think they felt pity on me.

Twas a sad day. Monday I get more RAM.

I've heard a lot of complaints about Orgrimmar since the patch before the last patch (forgot the actual date). I know a lot of people who normally don't have any lag issues are saying Orgrimmar is like a slideshow. I go there once a month to drop 50g+ on herbs and then don't return for another month, so I don't know if it has been fixed yet or not.

I've had that Zepplin problem but it was a Friday when the servers normally take a shit so I spent like an hour on the same boat. :(

Psst. That means jack and shit without you telling the people how the game plays for you. But congratulations on memorizing the little card the store gave you.

ok haven't bought the RAM yet. A friend suggested that I first upgrade my video card to see if I can rid some of the lag. I'm 10 minutes away from upgrading from gforce2 to gforce3 and testing it out. update on that in an hour, if it is still shitty as hell, I will get the RAM tomorrow.

with my graphics card upgrade the game played much much better. I was able to take the flights and travel through the cities with not too much lag. I still lag though, especially around lots of people, but the game is at least playable. I will need to upgrade my RAM but I'm gonna put it off a week since I'm happy enough with my computer's performance atm.

off topic:

after several hundred hours of online poker over the last year, I have an average of -$0.78 an hour, while my live poker earnings are almost $6 an hour. I had several theories of why this was happening.

1) I play different online than I do live.
2) Other people play different online than they do live.
3) I have a reputation in the poker circles around town, and no reputation online.
4) I play more frequently online than I do live.
5) I play many more hands/hour than I do live.
6) I cannot see my opponents online, thus I cannot sense weakness or strength, or look for certain other tells.

I think all of these have something to do with it, but for now I have retired from online poker except for maybe one day a week where I spend $5-20 playing tournaments. Thank you WoW for giving me a viable alternative (read: less expensive addiction).

now back to your regularly scheduled system requirements thread.

Xyun, what do you think is a bigger factor in performance of the game, memory or vid card(obvisoley if both met basic requirements)

I think memory is more important. My vid card was ancient so the problems I had with it were to be expected, but the game still doesn't run nearly as smoothly as I would like it. I will definitely need more RAM.
