Zamtuk from announcement of the warrant and the info to time of arrest was like 5 hours, midnight est was when they announced all the info. So it is reasonable with them sleeping that they crashed at 11pm and woke up to the sight of several hundred cops ( and man I wish they had taken a picture of their faces)
Military officials also said Muhammad was not trained as a sniper and was not in Special Forces, but served in combat support missions as a mechanic or water truck driver.
ROFL he was a WATERBOY

OMG!!! only thing lower than mechanics and waterboys are personnel and finance pukes.

The only valid argument I can see for the death penalty is simply that it could be quick and efficient. In our justice system, it's not, but it does hold that potential.

Torturing someone while they die, as many of you have suggested, is highly unconstitutional, as well as nonsensical and pointless. The purpose of catching the guy was to stop him from being a danger. Putting him to death or putting him in jail will accomplish that purpose every bit as effectively as any torture-death. Why do it?

Man, The CNN crew was really disappointed that this guy had no sniper training or elite training.

Can't let you be a shill, Vor.

I keep hearing them now about his "expert marksman badge". He was not in a combat arms MOS so he basically got about a week of training and practice in basic training on firing an M-16. Basically, the military training for rifle marksmanship is:

Breathe.
Relax.
Aim.
Center Mask.
Squeeze the Trigger.

After doing some classroom training on weapon maintenace, you fire at some targets, probably less than 100 rounds. Then comes qualification day.

Qualification consists of 40 rounds at variable distance pop-up targets. They range from 75 meters to 300 meters. You have to hit 36 of 40 to qualify expert.

This is not a difficult award to achieve.

In Denmark we have a person that's a perfect example to why normal prison shouldn't be allowed.

His crime was that he shot 4 policemen. The first 2 he shot in a "gunfight", the other 2 ran. He ran after them and even though they ran from him that wasn't enough. He ran after them till he found them, and then he shot them in cold blood head to head. They had no chance of survival. Weren't armed. This guy is out in the streets today. He's gotten his "lifetime" of prison. The general problem is that lifetime in prison doesn't mean lifetime in Denmark. It means 16 years. Sad but true. He was 56 when he was let out again. Still this person shouldn't have seen daylight EVER again. This is the system that we live with in Denmark on an everyday basis. :( If that's the kind of judgement they want here, then all they're gonna experience is that all people at one point get tired of it and either make a riot or just wanna leave.

Is that the country I wanna live in? No it isn't. Prison isn't a punishment in Denmark. Sadly. It's more like being in a hotel with roomservice or something. I know that this is an overstatement, but this is how I feel. It can't be right that if you're punished, then you're allowed 3 meals a day, TV, Playstation, pooltable etc etc. That's not punishment. Correct me if I'm wrong plz

yeah i totally agree Neost.

i do think that they tried to play up the "expert marksman" thing on air too much.

they had a corporal on this afternoon at about 3pm who said basically "BFD" about it.

and later on they were stating that this did not even scratch the surface of sniper / special forces training.

and many analysts on many networks all along have been saying that these shots weren't hard. One today said that he could train somebody in less than an hour to be good enough to make most of these shots.

I thought ABC's prime time news features were really pretty good on the sniper thing tonight.

Glad there was a ballistics match.

Zee goose is cooked.

PS: even though i work where i do, please don't confuse any post i ever make with a news item. I am not personally a part of a news gathering unit. I know i have made this disclaimer in the past on the old board. And i don't try to pass off my knowledge as expert or anything like that. Anyways, that is all :)

Vor,

Personally I think you are the worst kind of corporate shill so incensed with your own worth that causeth you to spew forth massive amounts of CNN Propoganda. I think you are working your way up the hierarchy set forth by your corporate masters to position yourself as the "Corporate Christ" which will be the next step in the massive conspiracy to enslave all of America under the cast iron rule of the Canadians.

Your sig is a farce, sir. A cheap lie to divert our attention from the secret plot that you have undertaken at the direction of your true master, Kyoukan!

Maybe weed does make me paranoid?

EDIT: Because I didn't know how to spell Kyoukan.

I am definitely pro-death penalty. I realize that there are problems with our criminal justice system as well. But when the evidence is there beyond a shadow of a doubt (video, confession, gun in car, etc.) and pre-meditated (not self-defense or passion killing) then I don't think there should be any appeals and the person should die.

I don't care if they were mentally disabled. It isn't about revenge or deterrence to future murderers, it is about making our streets safe so that these fucktards are never walking it again. Clean this scum out of the gene pool. They aren't going to be rehabilitated. Our prisons don't give a shit about rehabilitation. I don't want these people walking my streets.

I can't criticize the death penalty. It's also hard to give Bush shit for executing the retarded when I'd like to see half of you put to death.

Minfetter: I'm not sure how it is in Denmark, but in the United States, prisoners are brutally and repeatedly gang-raped, unless they have gang connections before entering, and even that is often not enough. I'm not sure if I would classify that as hotel-quality treatment.

IMHO, the death penalty has nothing to do with justice or retribution.

Some people are just too damned screwed up to live in a civilized society. Give him one round in the back of the head, quick and clean. Bury the remains and move on.

my personal take on it is sort of like yours.

in my opinion you can commit acts so heinous such that you forfit your right to benefit from society.

I certainly agree with Fairweather's concerns about the inaccuracies of our legal system, especially when it comes to the issues of essentially being able to buy your innocence/penalty down through having a star legal team.

And speaking of OJ, and to steal a phrase from Winnow, "OJ Gravy Trainers", what has Mark Furman been doing on FOX the last couple of days?

He doesn't seem like a guy i'd pick to analyze police investigations. Just curious if he is one of their "expert/specialists" now.
