They really did a good job on this one, keeping the message and lyrics while combining it with their own sound.

Perfect Circle has an entire album coming out in about 10 days of all political and war-protest songs (mostly covers).

I'm definitely picking it up.

mjk has one of the best voices out there, but i wasn't too impressed with his version of imagine though.

mjk is my favorite. i like apc and love tool.

i hate this cover, i think it's less the vocals and more the rest of the band that make me hate it.

Well, i agree there, APC main strength is Keenan.

Iha, Twiggy/Jordie, big names, with definate styles i admit. It's just the styles are nowhere near as definative as Tool (what is?) thusly his voice almost tries to carry too much of the actuality whilst the musicians struggle to impact the same way.

I have yet to hear this imagine cover, although I have been looking forward to it for about 2 months.

I cannot wait

Also, side note, for the Tool fans , any rumour of a new album?

Aenima is still like new to me, so many years later, a Tool album is a rare treat. Each one gauranteed to inspire you for years. Or forever, I have yet to see.

I think I heard on the radio that they have most of the music laid down for the next album and are waiting for mjk to do the vocals and that it is due in 2005, but i could be dreaming.

This version sucks. Seriously.

Then again, I'm not a huge fan of covers in general - particularly if I'm fond of the original. I may just be holding this cover to to high of a standard as a result.

i think covers can be really interesting, and sometimes excellent.

this of course is the evil opposite of excellent. i would go so far as to say it is complete, unmitigated garbage. I'm hardly some Beatles nerd either, i have one album i think (Revolver) and thats it.

examples of good covers: Janes Addiction doing "ripple", Stevie Ray Vaughan doing "Voodoo Chile"

i just don't like this kind of brooding, over the top syrupy droning melancholia that you find in some rock/pop music.

i just don't fucking buy it, you know? that's why i never really like NIN. I mean shut the fuck up already and stop feeling so goddamn sorry for yourself. maybe if you weren't such a douchebag, you'd enjoy your life a bit more, you know?

i am not saying i don't like some music that is crap, dont get me wrong. but this song....its crap

Voro, I totally agree on that point.

If you listen to APC's second album, it is ripe with self indulgence and pretentious singery pokery.

For all out musical decadence listen to Aenima (Tool) before resigning MJK (at least) to the realms of Vorohell!

I agree, but I think that it's a challenge beyond most artists to improve upon (or even do justice to) the original. It's certainly not impossible to do, but it does seem to be rare. Also, I don't believe that a cover has to be "better" than the original to be good.

Two covers come to mind that I really enjoy: Johnny Cash's cover of NiN's "Hurt" and Nirvana's cover of Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World." I'm not a huge, rabid fan of any of these, although I do like them all for different reasons.

I have not heard this. But I did hear a cover of "Head Like a Hole" (NiN song) done by what I believe was APC on the radio.

It was less then acceptable

So I heard the 'let's have a war' cover they did on the radio last night.

It was weird, oh I mean Maynards voice sounded great, and the overall intention of the song (to point out the sickness in pointlessly going to war) was plain to see, and it stuck out from the other songs like a sore thumb......

but.

As a song, it wasn't very melodic or anything.

Should be interesting to hear the album.

I heard the same thing about the tool album as whoever posted above. If you pay attention to maynard, he tends to follow in a pattern. He releases a album with tool, goes on tour with tool. Then when that tour is done he releases the next apc album and goes on tour with them. I think the only reason he broke this pattern is because of his extreme distaste for bush.

If you like to educate yourself on stuff that is interesting and you probably dont know much if anything about, check out the monthly newsletter on tools website. Maynard is one of those types that is almost too smart for his own good.

The "I Am Sam" soundtrack is all Beatles covers that range from great-bleh, but most of em are good.

Mmmm that reminds that Pearl Jam's cover of Last Kiss is great. I'd say it is better than the original(Frank Wilson and The Cavaliers)

Picked up the cd today, I enjoyed it. I think some of the tracks are better than others. The thing I like the most about maynard in either group though is how damn sarcastic he is, especially when it comes to his "think for yourself, question authority" lyrics.

I particularily liked all the posters in the booklet poking about blind faith and ignorance and so on. . And the sheep were a nice touch
