All Ghosts are Dead...

Post by Voronwë »

If Bill Buckner's corpse is found on an Mayan alter in the jungles of Guatemala today with its heart cut out, I would not be surprised.

The Houston Astros will win today, and their manager will not be questioned for his Game 6 starter.

Because this weekend it the corner of Yawkey Way and Landsdowne Street, Pedro Martinez will toe the rubber against the only man who could possibly fill the villain's shoes vacated by the shrinking enemy in Manhattan.

Roger Clemens.

And while we are on the subject of bad trades that occured in the year 1918, let us remember one of the worst trades in the modern era of Red Sox history....Jeff Bagwell was traded for ....who even knows at this point.

There must be a crate of Moet y Chandon, Dom Perignon, v. 1918 carefully stored and secretively vaulted underneath the city of Boston. Carefully preserved for such an occurance.

The power of myth has been invoked. Curt Schilling, ineffective until wounded, and potent through bloodshed, rises to defeat the greastest of adversaries.

Tonight it will be a Ruthian clout from the bat of David Ortiz that will exorcise this demon. The Yankees may be Pedro's daddy, but Ortiz is the American League Championship Series' Big Papi.

The curse is reversed.

Does anyone have cash they would care to bet that if the game is close that Schilling comes back out for an inning tonight?

i think Pedro is more likely to setup, because i literally think Schilling will be on crutches today. They are going to have to re-suture the ankle every time he pitches for the remainder of the season I believe, so I just don't think that it is possible.

I think Pedro will be the setup man, and perhaps even closer, because who knows what Foulke has left in the tank.

Or maybe it will be Wakefield on the mound in extra innings, where we all watch and wonder what ways the machinations of the universe will turn. Will they turn for us, or will they turn for them?

PS: Kilmoll and I both know Sheffield is going to go 0-5 tonight, so don't even think about it Yankees fans

Quite a picture you painted there. Almost poetic

I agree they are certainly favored, but there's a reason they take to the field, they have to still play the game.

While I think it would be a stupid move, Pedro will be a Yankee next year. Count on it

Foulke has thrown over 100 pitches in the past 3 days... even for an offspeed closer, that's insane, he's got a ton of heart

Excellent post Voro.

As a former N'englandah and lifelong Sox fan, now living in Houston, I'm really really looking forward to a Red Sox - Astros series. If it comes to pass, I will be at a game in Minute Maid Park.

Not only will Sheffield find his post-season groove (0-fer), I am predicting that J.D. Sheffield will join the Yankees next year to take over for Bernie. That should give them a nice collection of non-hitting in the post-season.

I could possibly see Schilling coming out to save the game tonight. I remember Randy Johnson doing the same in the 2000 World Series DBacks VS Yankees after Schilling had pitched a great game and Randy had pitched the night before. (at least that's how I remember it!)

I didn't understand why Schilling's sock was bloody last night. I didn't think he had the sort of injury that would bleed so I'm guessing it was a brace that was rubbing the wrong way?

I hope there are riot police lined up the foul lines again tonight as NY fans get upset over correct calls, I can't imagine the carnage if an umpire makes a wrong call tonight.

Alex's image is tarnished a bit. Its amazing what one play will do to someone. The Yankee mystique fades a bit as High Definition and slow motion replays reveal their true character.

Go Sox!

Tarnished in what way? You mean you can tarnish an overpaid whiny brat of a ballplayer's reputation? Or did you mean the reputation he had of carrying his teams to great heights? I like how the teams he left played better after he was gone. He fits in perfect with the Yankees.

Schilling had seutures (sp) on Monday, Winnow. IF the Sox make it to the WS, they have to redo it everytime he pitches.

Schilling has a tendon in his ankle. It was injured so that it can pop in and out of place, making his ankle kind of useless. So to prevent that from happening, they sewed the skin very tight on both sides of that tendon couldnt move. So that was the reason for the bleeding I imagine.

Ouch. OK, got it.

I'm missing a ligament on the top of my ankle that snapped during a soccer game when I was a kid. They put the ankle in a cast but failed to realize the ligament had separated. I was thinking Schilling has the same kind of injury where the ankle could still be functional but with a greatly increased chance of spraining the ankle due to no ligament support. Stitching his skin together tightly before each start sounds brutal.

Man, if they pull this series off it will be simply amazing. If they lose tonight though, it will be devastating. (Worse than Steve Bartman last year in NLCS!)

The best closer I have seen in awhile belongs to the Astros. Lidge came in to close in all 3 games at home for the Astros totaly shutting down the Cards.

I agree, come next year, when he has a full year of save opportunities, I expect him to reach in the mid 50s, with around 150 Ks.

Well he just went through the better hitters for the Cards again to send it into extra innings. Just alittle note he now has the record for Ks by a closer in a post season. Just think he should only get better too.

Johnny Damon and his magic Shong have won the day!

I am only cheering for the Sox for Bill Buckner's brave gift to my Mets in 1986.

That said, I hate the fucking Yankees.
