Officials at Cadillac said the Escalade's ranking at the top of the rankings is a form of endorsement for the vehicle.
"While we regret any vehicle being stolen, this is clear evidence that the Cadillac Escalade is in high demand," said a statement from the company. "Thieves follow market trends and target the most popular vehicles because they offer the best market for stolen vehicle parts and illegal export to other countries."
Very vanilla, but also very common fleet vehicles. In other words, Corporation B isn't likely to track your ass down to get their baby back, so stealing them is prolly very low risk.

my father in law has an escalade. I wouldn't drive one if you gave it to me. it handles like a school bus and the gas guage moves faster than the speedometer when you're taking off from a stop.
but I'm sure people feel really safe in them up until the point their 2 year old kid is crushed to death after you roll it because you took that gentle curve at more than 15mph.
Too late to research it, but doesn't the Escalade boast some kind of stabilization technology that makes it pretty safe in what would be typical rollover situations for an SUV?
seeing as how a typical rollover situation for an SUV is blowing on it from the side, I can't say one way or the other. I do know I took a corner a little hard in it once and it felt like it was about to go up on two wheels.
There is no amount of computer controlled stabilization that will stop 2 tons of vehicle from rolling over if you get tapped during a turn. Those fucking things don't corner, they wallow.

I don't think I would want to be riding in a mini cooper either. Any car that would lose a head on collision with a Schwinn 10 speed is not on the top of my list.
Well if you don't like minivans and you have to take 6 people with you, with 2-4 car seats the Yukon-XL class of vehicles is about your only option besides a Ford Excursion which is even bigger with even worse gas mileage. At least on the GM products you get the bi-fuel engine standard now which will run on an ethanol / gas mixture.
I plan to purchase one of these behomoths in the next year or so but in all fairness will not be looking at an Escalade... even the ESV. I can't see paying the extra $$ when a GMC Denali has the exact same options, even the nifty little clock and wood stearing wheel, for about $15K less.
It's interesting to note though that both the Denali and the Escalade Plat (it's $70K) are lowered about 3/4 of an inch. That isn't much but with the width of the vehicle and the stabilitrack, rollover is greatly decrease. Especially compared with any of the Ford models or the Z71 Series GM SUVs.
I used to have a Tahoe. I had to trade it in because of continual transmission problems though. I'm not a big fan of Chevrolet/GM for that reason. Ford is probably worse...but then what are your options? Uhm might I suggest a Durango? =D They can take 8 people...
That doesn't make their trannys any better you were one of the lucky ones. They have a horrible history with their trannys hence the reason they have a very intrusive tq managment system so the trannys don't blow up.

I'll take your word for it. I've had the Durango for longer than the Ram though and haven't had problems. I had it for 3 years, and the only thing that I had to replace was the tires.
As far as Fords go, I had one for a week as a rental car, and like 4 little things broke in it.
I also took a rental Chevvy Blazer on a long trip, and about halfway through, it developed some odd engine noise... never figured out what it was...
