I wonder if this will happen only if Kerry is elected, because as Shrub likes to claim, Canadian drugs aren't safe...Federal Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh says Canada has a surplus of flu vaccine that could be provided to the United States, suffering from an unexpected vaccine shortage.
Canada may share flue vaccine with the US...

Bush already said he'd work with Canada to get more flu vaccine in the third debate.
If you aren't about to keel over from old age, I'd stay away from flu vaccinations anyway. You are having dead flu virus shot into you from someone's best guess as to what the strain is going to be that year. No thanks. Keep that shit out of me.

Mmmm good stuff. The shot contains killed flu viruses that won't cause you to get the flu, but will cause your body to make antibodies to fight off infection by the live flu virus. Getting a shot of the killed virus causes you to become immune to (protected against) the particular type of live flu virus that's in the vaccine in case you come into contact with it.
The flu shot is 80% effective against the flu, which means that a few people who get the shot will still get the flu. In addition, the shot only contains certain strains of the virus. If a new flu strain emerges, a person who's had a shot may not be protected against it.
You might have some minor side effects for 1 or 2 days after the shot, like soreness in the area where you got the shot. Some people may feel achy or have a mild fever after getting the shot. But the side effects aren't as bad as the flu, which can make you sick for as long as 2 or 3 weeks.
A few people who get the nasal mist vaccine can develop mild flu-like symptoms that go away after a few days.
The ingredients for flu vaccines are actually grown inside eggs. So if you're allergic to eggs or egg products, let your doctor know before you get either type of flu vaccine.

Heh, Bush was trying to claim that the US blocked the flu vaccines from being shipped to the US because they were unsafe.
The fact is that the UK had blocked the vaccine shipments (they didn't meet standards) days before the Bush administration even found out they had been blocked for export.

If people don't understand how a vaccine works, they should admit that now so I can further clarify who I need to ignore in this forum.
As far as the spoonfed comment, if you feel that applies to you, it's your problem, not mine. I support my troops and the Constitution, not a political machine that specializes in self-interest and deception.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

The best thing about this board is that you learn a thing or two between flames. People who claim to know everything are the suck. I find it entirely reasonable that someone may not know exactly what's going on with a flu vaccination.noel wrote: If people don't understand how a vaccine works, they should admit that now so I can further clarify who I need to ignore in this forum.
There are smart people that don't know how to drive. There are considerably less intelligent people that would own you on a plumber thread. Take a look at the various forums on this board and you'll see various levels of knowledge about a given area. I appreciate the bits of info on this site and skip over them if I am already familiar with the particular topic.
The thing about the vaccine is that the flu is so common that it mutates a lot. I'm not sure, but from what I hear, it mutates enough that you can quite easily get a different strain of flu than what the vaccine is effective against. That said I wish I had it done. Any chance of me not getting sick is better than none.

Two years ago I had the flu shot for the first time ever. For three days after the shot (although they claim this won't happen) I felt like I had a low grade flu infection, with body aches, chills, a slight fever, fatigue and malaise. Three months later when a different flu strain came around, I got sick despite my vaccination. Based on that experience I doubt I'll be getting a flu shot again for the foreseeable future.

How about this for a new thought.... NOT everyone has had your experiences in life, not everyone knows how to shave their legs, email nude picts of themself, or insult someone for posting pertinent information to a discussion. Granted most people probably are aware of how a vaccine works. There are some people like Stragi who probably are too stupid to know this and will be thankful for the insight.
How you got to be so fucking arrogant that you not only are the spelling nazi on the board but you are now trying to decide what people should and should not know. Fuck man shut the hell up.

I agree. Never had one. To be honest, I never really heard of it being a common practice until just a few years ago and the feedback has been lukewarm at best. Please don't relate your experiences or how things work on this thread! The same people spouting off about everyone believing what they hear and the public not thinking for themselves have a problem with someone expressing some concerns with flu shots and their effectiveness.Tenuvil wrote:Two years ago I had the flu shot for the first time ever. You people have the same mentality as you did when you were getting beat up by bullies. Give that bully your lunch money and maybe he won't keep giving you wedgies. It doesn't matter that there's 100 other types of bullies that are going to do the same thing and you just happen to be that particular bully's bitch atm. Take precautions, avoid the situations.

That's an 80% chance of not getting sick if you happen to be around the right strain. Your chance of getting sick without the flu shot is unknown.Pherr the Dorf wrote:I get the flu shot every year, got mine before the fiasco this year... never, ever got the flu, despite being around it, 80% chance to not get sick as a dog and be out of work for days... 24 bucks... ummm ok!
I haven't gotten the flu in the past 15 years and that's without a flu shot and sick people are hard to avoid unless you live in a plastic bubble and never go outside your home.

Selfish bastards! At least give us the vaccinations before Quebec! We host your snowbirds that drive down here in huge motor homes every year to Arizona to escape the blizzard of canada. I don't want them getting us sick!VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Canada cannot provide a quick fix to the flu vaccine shortage in the United States, even if has its own surplus of the medicine, top Canadian health officials said on Monday.
Officials said Canada is willing to help, but domestic needs come first. They caution that even if the hurdles are overcome, Canada can only replace a small portion of the expected U.S. shortfall.
"Our first priority is the availability of flu vaccines for Canadians ... if we can share it in a way that doesn't jeopardize the safety and supply for Canadians, we would do so," Dosanjh told reporters in Ottawa.
Been a while since I got the lecture on vaccines and crap from an ex but.. that is how every vaccine works (some even have some live viruses in them I think?) and has been done that way for years. Anyone who is interacting with a lot of people (especially kids) should get the flu vaccine every year.If you aren't about to keel over from old age, I'd stay away from flu vaccinations anyway. You are having dead flu virus shot into you from someone's best guess as to what the strain is going to be that year. No thanks. Keep that shit out of me.
Oh and it is not that out of the ordinary to feel a bit sick after a strong vaccine. Can happen with more than the flu one.
As evil as Whitey is it has to be true.On that note, read some shocking comments by a Nobel winner who claimed AIDS is a biologically created virus to exterminate non-whites. I about fell off my chair when I read it, and the entire Nobel committee started working overtime to figure out if the quotes were real heh.
I hate to kinda derail the talk, but has anyone else read the last part of The Hot Zone by Richard Preston? Pretty interesting commentary on how maybe disease might be created from Earth to get rid of the problem(us). It's nothing fanatical but gives pretty good insight for a popular book.
