Open Beta means everyone. Closed Beta, which is currently in progress, is selective. I am pleasantly surprised that it is happening now. I assume that the sign up is to gather information for registering accounts.

I can't browse the blizzard site from here at work, whats the scoop on open beta? They are taking initial signups for it now? Have they given any estimated times for when open beta is starting?

I need infoz!

Like the stress test, isnt any sort of open Beta usually very close to release date?

Yep. I'd guess that open beta will start in the next 7-10 days, and that the game will be released around a month after that.

I do believe that I read an interview a couple weeks ago that said Euro release would be by Christmas, and US release would be a bit before that.

I know bestbuy has the preorder boxes in already, and I believe they have the release date slated for mid to late November. I am not sure how much water that holds, but I have heard many say Bestbuy is normally pretty close on their release dates.

On a side note the preorder boxes contain a decently sized Warcraft novel - I have only flipped through it for a few minutes, but it read ok. 400 pages to boot! Much better than the normal keychain / hat / t-shirt gift most preorders come with!

I think the collector's edition is going to have that book, a hardcover art book, the game on DVD and CDs, and a cloth map of the world, plus an in-game zerg pet or something. I'm so there!

I believe they stated there will be more patches before open Beta, so I wouldn't count on it being within the next two weeks or so.

Yep, double checked.

Isn't the concept of open beta to not have sign-ups? It's effectively "open" to everyone?

Assuming that they have a conventional Quality Control and testing process, it is possible to have multiple builds undergoing testing provided that they are not touching the same sections of the code line. The only phase of testing that would need to be coordinated would be regression testing.

In any case, what I am suggesting is that the patches could become more frequent as they become smaller in scope and touch narrowed aspects of the complete code line.

You are probably right that the open beta is not likely to begin for several weeks. I wasn't arguing with you, just offering clarification on the possibilies.

What I am curious to see is how many more patches total there are before release, and what the size of the patch is on release day.

Oh yes, and I am curious to see if anything sexier will be added to the Holy talent tree for Priests. I can imagine choosing a Shadow build to level and then respec'ing at 60 for the more group friendly Holy talents. It would be nice to have a little more versatility in the Holy tree, but I don't really know how and I doubt that they are going to find the time.

I hate you for two reasons,

1: Stress Test
2: Open Beta
