Saw the original "Ju-on", was creepy, but not one to own.

The previews for this movie make me feel bad for Buffy's acting career. :(

I dunno, I thought The Ring was better than Ringu in almost every way. Ringu left me a little disappointed, after hearing that it was so much better than later version. But Im certain I would have thought higher of Ringu if I had seen it first.

Knowing this was produced by those who made Ringu has increased my urge to see it, even if Buffy's in it.

Is Ju-On also "The Eye"? I've seen that one before, didn't like it so much, but there were some creepy scenes, maybe one startling scene.

I thought the previews looked pretty freaky personally. I loved The Ring, and the cinematics look fairly similar imo. I'll definately shell out the money to go see it, whether or not it's any good remains to be seen!

Update:

Saw this movie yesterday. It definately has some freaky moments, but there are a lot of weird moments when you wonder what something has to do with the plot. The effects are subtle yet scary, and there are times when things just made me want to shiver. The end is when they really brought on the freaky scare factor, and the movie could have been a lot better if they had tried to do more of that throughout. There were times when I thought they were just doing something to try to add "scary scenes" to the movie and they were just kind of peppered throughout. Overall I'd say it was a pretty good flick if you aren't going in expecting it to be the next Ring or anything.

Overall its not a bad movie. Its definately not the next "The Ring" but itll get the job done if you need a good scare, since it is that time of the year and all. If youre seeking substance and a good plot, youll probably want to pass on this one.
[Show]
1. I cant understand why youd call home and conclude the message with, "Im coming to find you" when shes obviously anywhere on the planet but home. Then again, I guess it was pretty dick for her to go all day without calling, especially under those circumstances.

B.Theres an old japanese saying that "when someone kills you and stuff, you leave a curse on that place." We know three people were murdered in that house and its definately cursed, but we never bothered to bulldoze or burn the place down. We figured we'd just let foreigners, who were ignorant, move in...you know...just for kicks. Nevermind the loss of my two drinking buddies.

D. Oh, so now youre gonna burn the place down. Sweet. But...whats that? A scream. Nevermind that you know the house is haunted. Go ahead and investigate.
W.W.Farrel.D? *Shouting* "Well, Im burning this house down, and no Im not coming to find you. Youve got five minutes to get out or youll have a real reason to scream. Arigato(sp). "
These three in particular really had me going, but maybe Im just thinking too much into it.

That was some freaky shit. I thought it was worth the money to see it at the theater. Definately some above average scares in that movie.

I enjoyed this one too, thought there were some pretty freaky parts.

I also am looking forward to a few of the movies that they had previews for, The boogeyman, and White Noise are the two I remember.

Just saw this last night.. gotta agree that it was really good. I can't remember the last movie that actually freaked me out in the theater like this one did.

I mean, you KNEW something was about to happen, but damn if it didn't scare you anyway.

I rented this last night.

The Good: The makeup effects were very cool. I thought the kid was pretty creepy and the dead woman was very well done. Buffy is always a hotty. I did have a cool movie related dream last night though where I ended up with superpowers. I love movies that give my mind that kind of mental stimulation.

The Bad: I thought it was kind of stupid and predictable. The scary parts were always predictable and I thought the ending was kind of stupid.

The Ugly: The cinematography could have been a lot better. In a lot of the scenes, you could see the evil woman in the background before the "jump" frame. I am not sure if they were trying to hide things in the shadows or what.

Overall I would rate this movie a 4/10.

I haven't seen the DVD yet, but I'm going to have to assume this is a DVD xfer fault as it wasn't like that in the movie anywhere that I remember. I remember watching it in the theater and knowing that the effects that worked so well there would have a hard time working on DVD as you just need the size of the screen for it.

Still plan on buying this. Grudge > Ring

And don't listen to the reviewers who seem to think the Japanese original of Grudge was better - it sucks and wasn't scary in the least. It was more comical in its attempts to scare you than anything.

Rented this last night, and as a long time Horror fan I thought this was a good movie, The makeup and camera work were excellent, and while some of the scary parts were kind of predictable, they still made me jump and say "you Bastards!"

If you watch the special features on the DVD the legend of the story is told so it brought the movie together for me.

I give this movie an 8 out of 10 on the old Scareometer

What you did not think painting a person to signify a ghost was scary? It did not scare you that a creation from HR Puffenstuff chased her into the bathroom? Yea the Japanese version sucked.

Update.. if you didn't see this in the theater, just pretend it doesn't exist. There's no reason to watch the DVD version as it's very boring. I'd seen the movie once in the theater, loved it.. bought the DVD and watched it with friends and felt bad for making them sit through it. I tried to explain how great it was on the big screen but it was hard with how boring it was on a TV. For those of you that enjoy it on DVD, you would have shiat yourself in the theater.

The only enjoyment I got out of this film was watching my two cats go apeshit everytime the ghost would "meow" or scream or whatever.
