Looking for Advice

As of now, my ignore list contains Cartalas and Atokal as they are clearly just worthless trolls. I try to ignore people when they prove that they are utterly incapable of presenting anything of value.

The piece of advice I need: Should I ban Midnyte?

In the past few days, he's posted:

Fact is you pussies don't know what it takes to provide safety. Fact is you pussies think if you be nice to everybody they will be nice to you. You pussies never fucking learn. I have tried to play nice for a while now. Respecting others opinions, but this has come to an end. If you truly think Kerry would be better for the US and the world then I have lost all respect for you. I have a lot of old guild mate friends who come here and post. I still love you and cherish our times together, but politically speaking, you have become inferior to me. I look down upon with pity and shame.

It's not that I this sort of shit offensive. I simply find it boring. It's completely ignorant and it's impossible to argue with, because:
1. Midnyte generally only responds to baiting and insults, not valid arguments.
2. I have seen no indication that his political knowledge is any deeper than what comes up on page one of google search.
3. Even if you do get him to respond to attempts at serious conversation, someone else will just derail it anyway.

I have no desire to read bullshit like what I quoted above. I have no desire to read the ridiculous arguments that Mid gets into with Kelshara and Dregor and Hesten and Xzion and Kyoukan and sometimes even myself.

I understand that Midnyte doesn't always start this. If I recall correctly, and I may not, it was Miir who began the trend of replacing quotes with repeated use of the word "blah." The fact that someone else started it, however; does not make it any less retarded. If Miir posted virtually nothing else, I would probably put him on ignore too.

On the other hand, Midnyte does sometimes post facts. They may not be interesting or relevant facts, but it's content nonetheless. For example, on the "Republican Senator Won't Vote for Bush" thread, he posted a list of prominent Democrats who are ex-KKK members. Again, this material is easily googled, but it's a hell of a lot more than Cartalas or Atokal have ever brought to the table. I'm sure I could (probably) find more examples.

Additionally, you sometimes see him posting things like this

I'm wrong. He just made me feel he wouldn't have gone to war if he was president. I guess it's just the way he comes accross. Or maybe I'm just hearing what I want.

Indeed. I haven't done very well at all. Thankfully enough, to have my own home, pay for my wife to go back to school full-time, keep the kids in new clothes, etc, etc, etc. I'm struggling and have been for a long time. But, I don't want government support. I'll continue to work hard and try to make a better life for myself and my family.

Thanks for brining it up though.

In the past, Midnyte has switched his position on gay marriage due to discussion. Most of the liberals who so criticize his dogmatism have never displayed the same willingness to admit mistakes.

That being said, his occasional contributions of content and occasional moments of humility are dwarfed by his massive contributions of bullshit.

With all this in mind, and knowing whatever you may know about me, would my enjoyment of this board be enhanced or harmed by ignoring Midnyte?

Midnyte may be a dolt sometimes, but for the most part he stays on topic.
His comments are usually good for stimulating a good discussion.

Eventhough I disagree with everything he says, he's never going on my ignore list. He's a good sport and I admire his resolve against us pussy liberals tryng to fight the good fight!

I think that putting Midnyte on ignore would be the wrong choice. He was a message that he tried to convey. At times, his communication skills get the better of him and the built up frustration causes an outburst that does him a disservice. If you want to participate in balanaced discussion of events, you shouldn't put him on your ignore list.

I think that this public thread is in poor taste. I doubt seriously you would like having this done to you. A little empathy goes a long way on the internet.

As I said in another post, personally, a lot of my enjoyment comes from reading the posts from the "idiots" on this board. In that respect, I don't put anyone ignore, nor do I plan on doing so. It's the morons that bring a lot of the life to threads, in my opinion. But hey that's just me. If you really think Midnyte's posts are preventing you from concentrating on intelligent thread content, knock yourself out.

While I don't participate in the political arguments often, I do read them, and as stated above - he does at least stay on topic (as far as I can tell). Shit, at least he doesn't have to resort to personal insults, like body weight, to justify his arguments. I really don't see a reason to put him, or anyone else for that matter, on ignore.

I have considered adding one single person to ignore here ever, and it isn't Midnyte. However, I have tried not to get into it with him which is hard when I read most of his stupid rambling posts. I'll keep trying not to fall into the "I know he can't possible be set in that opinion.." trap heh. I wont ignore Midnyte, but I do pity him.

There is nothing more or less wrong with this thread than with any other.

I like that Midnyte (and others) bring alternative viewpoints. I don't like that they cannot be reasoned with even when presented with irrefutable evidence. At least his posts aren't inane and irrelevant like some of the other posters on this forum.

Personally I don't have anyone on ignore. While I may be liberal in my political thinking I also believe that people can change... they usually don't, but can.

I also believe in leading rather than managing. A leader, whether a person or a county, leads rather than follows. They make the hard choices for the good of all rather than there own ideals. Those ideals are important to me, if I'm going ever going to be able to pass those along to personages who don't believe that, I have to be able to view their posts, no matter how pathetic.

I totally disagree. I think that Midnyte is completely aware of the perception that most people have of him. He's spent a good year or two getting royally flamed every day on here, I can't imagine he's going to be deeply hurt and embarassed by one semiregular poster considering putting him on ignore. I don't know if anyone has me on ignore, but if they did, I think I would rather know than not.

Furthermore, unlike very many other people, I have never directly insulted Midnyte. I've never called him stupid, I've never called him an idiot, I've never mocked his personal life or economic situation or anything else. I may have insulted his opinions or ideology or some other such concept, but I don't believe I have ever insulted him personally. If I have, it was an accident, and I would apologize for that.

I'm a soft-spoken guy, both in real life and on the internet, and I do my best to make sure I don't put words into peoples mouths, to ensure I don't criticize them unfairly, and to avoid personal insults. I find it a bit bizarre that the person who felt the need to jump all over Lalanae's grammar is criticizing me for poor taste in embarassing another poster publicly.

This post isn't meant to embarass Midnyte. I would actually welcome his input as to my question.

I do not like Midnyte personally, I think he has a tendancy to be willfully ignorant of the obvious, and I completely disagree with his stance on the vast majority of issues. He generally stays on topic and while his opinions may be occasionally offensive, at least he says what he really thinks. He also keeps personal attacks fairly low. He is sort of like a big rotweiler that chomps into something and won't let go no matter how hard you wail on him. As much as he resists any and all attempts at reason and compromise, I don't think he would ever merrit an ignore. Metanis I pretty much regard in the same way.

Cart is one of those tiny little dogs that yips away constantly and waits for any chance to get in a sneaky shot. He also doesn't seem to care if what he posts has any consistancy at all, even with his previous posts, as long as he gets to rub one out to calling his prefered enemies "poopy pants" or something similar. I personally do not believe in putting people on ignore (though banning is something I advocate in certain situations) but if I were to use the ignore feature Cartalas would top the list, just ahead of sweetkastings and shaera. Call me a simple man, but I find endless displays of embarressing public stupidity amusing to watch, so for now my ignore list remains empty.

Sometimes, I am convinced that Midnyte is just saying the shit he says to get us going and is really nothing like that and that he is actually a very reasonable guy. On the other hand, I think 80s music is the best so meh.

i think this thread is a little silly (no offense intended). when it comes to your ignore list, YOU are the only person whose opinion should matter. nobody knows if your enjoyment of the board will increase or decrease, that depends on you.

however, if you do hit the button on him you'll be lost during a lot of arguments, because these days, most of the yelling is about something he's posted.

Really ignoring Midnyte wouldn't help your predicament much. People quote him far to often (unlike Cartalas - which thanks to the majority who stopped!) for it to do any good.

Can say a lot about Midnyte (and i definitely have, usually well deseved), and 90% of his posts are a waste of time, he DO sometimes find something constructive we can discuss, even if we dont agree on it.

Cant say that about most of the other people i usually discuss with here.

Apart from that, im personally agains putting anyone on ignore, although Cartalas ARE asking for it

I am honored. Thank you. No, of course, this doesn't upset me nor surprise me. I am fully aware people disagree with me a lot. I am fully aware people still think I am some sort of redneck hillbilly or something. I am fully aware some people still think I am a racist a bigot or whatever.

People do a lot of baiting on this board and I am one hungry as fish. I also do my fair share as well.
