Matchstick Men

Post by Zamtuk »

Great fucking movie. Nicholas Cage is genious as being obssessive compulsive, and also generally hating the outside. Some of the best acting I have seen in a movie came from his part. The story is great and very fun. Plus you learn a neat trick on how to con some one for a few hundred.

I watched this on HBO last night. Good flick. I missed the very beginning so I'm not sure how Nicholas Cage originally was instroduced to the shrink but otherwise the story had me wondering the entire time about how it was going to end. I don't like movies where I can guess what's going to happen or movies that are so far out there that it's impossible to ponder what the outcome will be. This movie is well balance in that respect.

Flags went up when his "daughter" was added to the safety deposit box but that was the only thing fishy until Frank acted a little strange after Angela shoots the guy near the end.
Good acting by Nicholas Cage and an above average plot.

7.5/10 (It's a character movie, not an action movie.)

Saw this a good while back when it first came out on vhs/dvd. I agree, it is a great movie. The acting is absolutely great, and the ending is unexpected and very good - albeit a lot of "the scam" seemed to rely to much on expectations and not actual plans, but hey - it's a movie~

Winnow: During the beginning portion of the movie, Cage's character was on meds to help control his compulsiveness, but in one scene he knocked his pills down the drain. He tried to reach his doctor for more but he had moved away so he talked to Frank. Frank recommended the shrink.
