Hedwig and The Angry Inch

Post by Drustwyn »

A friend of mine recommended this movie to me (he knows the director/writer/actor in it) and I found it to be hilarious.

Evidently it has been compared to Rocky Horror, but it's more modern (though it is building a similar cult film following). I guess it won some awards at Sundance fest a few years back.

From the official site:

Adapted from the critically acclaimed off-Broadway rock theatre hit, Hedwig and The Angry Inch tells the story of an "internationally ignored" rock singer, Hedwig, and her search for stardom and love. Born a boy named Hansel whose life's dream is to find his other half, Hedwig reluctantly submits to a sex change operation in order to marry an American G.I. and get over the Berlin Wall to freedom. The operation is botched, leaving her with the aforementioned "angry inch". Finding herself high, dry and divorced in a Kansas trailer park, she pushes on to form a rock band and encounters a lover/protégé in young Tommy Gnosis, who eventually leaves her, steals her songs

Highly recommended if you aren't bothered by gender bending, etc. The lead actor is superb, the songs are excellent, and the plot is great. It's just fun to watch too.

Yeah John Cameron Mitchell...a very good director...

"I stumbled naked through the ruins back to blander, less complicated confections, leaving in my wake a trail of rainbow carnage."

Such a quotable film...:)
