Concientious Objector Guildelines.
Since there is a possibility of a draft if Bush is re-electe, you need to be prepared if you don't want to fight ina war you completely disagree with. Getting conscientious objector status is one of the few things you can do to stay out of the war legally.
Here's a good page on what you need to do to pass as a conscientious objector to the war. It's not as easy as one might think.
http://www.oz.net/~vvawai/general/co-info.html
This is a serious situation, and denying the possibility of an upcoming draft is foolish, so read up and take action if you don't want to fight in a war you completely disagree with.

I don't understand how being against a war or any idea you don't agree with is enough to be called a whiney brat.
Are you suggesting we should all just subject to the will of one man/one government/one country? I have to disagree with your use of words here Akaran...sure we're pussies, but we are far from being whiney brats

Look, you live in a country, you are protected by its laws, you are protected with certain rights. These things do not come free. You pay taxes to support your government, you subject yourselves to that country's laws. You have a duty to support your nation even if you don't agree with what the ruling government party does.
You don't have to do it out of a respect for the administration. You don't have to do it out of a respect of your peers. You do it because it is one of the costs of enjoying the freedoms you have and everything else you recieve from society. It doesn't matter if you agree with the war or not - as long as it is not violating your moral and ethical beliefs, if your country asks you to fight, you fight. If you can't stand the thought of killing someone, then sign up under the non combatant branch and help the people that require it.
If I am called for the draft, I'll go. I'll do the service of fighting for my country to pay it back for the rights and the privledges I enjoy as an American citizen. I don't agree with the war - but if my country needs me to serve it in a military role, I'll do it. It's just the price we have to pay.

I am sure there was the same attitude every time the U.S. has been in a war...dating all the way back to the war for independence. Guesss we would still be a colony like Canada is if the people with real backbones didn't stand up and take over. The only comforting thing is that the liberals will never ever stand up to anyone.

There's no hello, Suv. If you don't want to kill, don't kill.
If your country is asking you to participate in a ethnic cleansing, don't participate. If your coutnry is asking you to rape and murder women and children in cold blood, don't do it.
If you disagree with a war because you don't think we should be over there, it's neither moral nor ethical - it's political.

This isn't a black and white issue, Ak. It's a very complex one with subtle moral implications.Akaran_D wrote:There's no hello, Suv. If you don't want to kill, don't kill.

Many people are concerned and angry because Bush lied about the reasons we began the war, about the reasons we are still there and about the way the war is going. It isn't AFAIK as brutal or barbaric as the items you laid out, but it doesn't have to be for people to be morally outraged.
Bull-fucking-shit.If you disagree with a war because you don't think we should be over there, it's neither moral nor ethical - it's political.
Political would be "I don't support it because my party doesn't support it". There is a vast world of difference between that not wanting to be involved in a conflict that:
- was an aggressive action against a nation that was no threat
- has been justified in a series of revolving goals after the previous ones are determined to be invalid or unnecessary
- circumvented the international diplomatic processes in place
- was hastily implemented with no accurate intelligence to help it succeed

You know, it IS possible to hold more than one non-conflicting viewpoint simultaniously. Liberals are too afraid of getting shot AND the war is immoral and rotten. Bush is a coke-snorting, draft-dodging puppet AND Kerry is a hippie twat who resembles a moist serviette.

Rangel introduces bill to reinstate draft
Rumsfeld says he sees no need for military draft
WASHINGTON (CNN) --Rep. Charles Rangel introduced a bill in Congress Tuesday to reinstate the military draft, saying fighting forces should more closely reflect the economic makeup of the nation.
The New York Democrat told reporters his goal is two-fold: to jolt Americans into realizing the import of a possible unilateral strike against Iraq, which he opposes, and "to make it clear that if there were a war, there would be more equitable representation of people making sacrifices."
"I truly believe that those who make the decision and those who support the United States going into war would feel more readily the pain that's involved, the sacrifice that's involved, if they thought that the fighting force would include the affluent and those who historically have avoided this great responsibility," Rangel said.
"Those who love this country have a patriotic obligation to defend this country," Rangel said. "For those who say the poor fight better, I say give the rich a chance."
According to Rangel's office, minorities comprise more than 30 percent of the nation's military.
Under his bill, the draft would apply to men and women ages 18 to 26; exemptions would be granted to allow people to graduate from high school, but college students would have to serve.
Anyone who didn't qualify for military service because of impairments would be asked to perform community service.
The lawmaker has said his measure could make members of Congress more reluctant to authorize military action. The Korean War veteran has accused President Bush and some fellow lawmakers of being too eager to go to war.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told reporters Tuesday he sees no need for a draft. He said the military is managing to attract enough skilled recruits without one.
"We're not going to re-implement a draft. There is no need for it at all," Rumsfeld said. "The disadvantages of using compulsion to bring into the armed forces the men and women needed are notable."
Draft controversy
The nation had a draft in place between 1948 and 1973. It grew to become the center of controversy during the Vietnam War, 1964-1975, an undeclared war that was the most unpopular conflict America has fought.
Anger over the war led many young men to flee to Canada and elsewhere to avoid the draft, and violent protests were rampant. When the draft ended, the United States set up an all-volunteer military.
Since 1980, the Selective Service has required men 18 to 26 to register to give the government a pool of men it could draw from in case troops were needed in an emergency.
As of October 31, 14.1 million men would be eligible for a draft, said Selective Service spokesman Pat Schuback. Twenty-year-olds would be called up first, followed by others -- year by year. In the age group 20 to 26, 11 million would be eligible.
The average number of men registered per year during the Vietnam War era was 18.4 million. That covers the period from July 1, 1964, through June 1973.

It's basically been covered already, but I also agree that this is bullshit. If you disagree with a war because you don't think we should be over there, it's neither moral nor ethical - it's political.
I feel that:
1. We lied about our reasons for invading Iraq.
2. We had no acceptable strategy in place.
3. Thousands of people have died because of this mistake.
And you're telling me that my opposition to this is political and not moral? You're wrong.

It has been stated quite frequently that "we lied" or "Bush lied". There is a pretty big difference between him knowing the truth and flat out lying to the public ala Clinton and being told by 3 of the top intelligence agencies on the planet bad information.Sueven wrote:It's basically been covered already, but I also agree that this is bullshit. If you disagree with a war because you don't think we should be over there, it's neither moral nor ethical - it's political.

The "CIA didn't know" is starting to be a pretty weak cop out. What about the whole "innocence until guilt is proven" thing? I realize in international politics it doesn't play quite the same way, but the UN had inspectors on the ground. The US has the most sophisticated satellites that man can build. These should have been able to provide SOME type of warning, that things were not as suspected. It has been stated quite frequently that "we lied" or "Bush lied". I can understand a lot of conservatives abhorence of Clinton from the stance of "if he was willing to break his word about his marriage, if he broke his word on his testimony, what other oaths will he break?". It degrades the trust some people have in their leadership when you see politicians caught in a lie (and naive as it is, I feel that way myself). By the same token, if Bush didn't want to see the warning signs that he wasn't right, how is that any less dishonest?

In my eyes, as well as many others, there is a liberal bias in the media. I see examples of it everyday. The Dan Rather situation is the latest and greatest example of it. If it was someone on FoxNews who did that with forged documents trying to hurt Kerry, all other media outlets would have seperate investigations going on to shut Foxnews down. I have heard no outcry or demand for the truth from anyone other than right wing talk show hosts. It's a blatant double standard. The fact this is allowed to happen is a travesty. I'm appaulled.miir wrote:My point is that when you start of your posts with your usual neocon horseshit, people can't be bothered to even read them... eventhough you might have a point.

Mid, I used to find your posts pretty amusing.
Your ultra right, neocon rantings were so outrageous and silly.
Now you've turned into a broken record with your conspiracy theories about the liberal media and your non-stop democrat bashing while your lips are firmly around the cocks of Dubya and his grand old party.
You have become a farce of yourself.

Just out of curiosity, protecting the whiney little brats from what? (I'd go if called, but I don't agree with the need)
Maybe if we started this war on terror a decade ago, 3000+ people wouldn't have died on 9/11/2001.

I agree. It would have undoubtedly have been an enormous success just like the war on drug addiction that was won so long ago. Declairing war on abstract concepts makes me feel so.. so... pacified!Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Maybe if we started this war on terror a decade ago, 3000+ people wouldn't have died on 9/11/2001.
Of course if Bush had headed up the war on drugs, he probably would have started by banning photography for some unclear reason.

It's no surprise to me that you have no fucking clue what I'm talking about, but just to clarify, I don't agree with the need for a draft.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:no?

If you're so in favor of the 'war on terror', I highly recommend you go enlist. http://www.goarmy.com
Until the point in time where you're willing to do that, get the fuck off your moral high horse.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
When we engage in an action that actually involves defense of our nation I'll consider it. Until then you aren't dying to defend me or my right to do anything- you're just dying because you were told to. Have a fucking blast.Akaran_D wrote:And for those of us that don't disagree with it, we'll have plenty of fun dieing to protect your right to be whiney little brats.

Noel Reynolds we both know you would be in Canada if you were drafted.noel wrote:Ask any soldier who's fought to defend this country... You would bike to Washington State, Run to the border along the beach, and swim to Vancouver Island. Pose for a picture and undoubtedly become the poster boy for those Objectors.

Sequim Bay on the Olympic Peninsula is probably the best place for that, unless you want to chance the ferry from Anacortes.Atokal wrote:Noel Reynolds we both know you would be in Canada if you were drafted.noel wrote:Ask any soldier who's fought to defend this country... Jeffrey, not only would I serve, but boot camp wouldn't be nearly as hard for me as it would be for your tired, out of shape ass.Atokal wrote:Noel Reynolds we both know you would be in Canada if you were drafted.

Once again, the amount of information you don't know about me I could just about fit in the Grand Canyon. Do us all a favor and stop embarassing yourself.
