Who's playing both, and what do you think of them? Heavy on the details, pls!

I hated Sims 1 so fucking badly that I had no desire to play Sims 2. Until I saw a thread on another forum that said Sims 2 takes the tedium out of the game. I'm looking forward to trying it out, but this is definitely a try before I buy type of game.

I love The Sims but I just don't have time to play it. I will be buying it though, probably this weekend, for my daughter.

I played it a little yesterday. It's really not as different from Sims1 as I expected. Graphics are better, they have the whole aging thing, some more choices for this and that, but otherwise it's the same game. The graphics disappointed me because I expected a much bigger change.

I'm already anticipating the 2-3 expansions per year like Sims 1 of less than exciting additions hardly worth the $50 price tag. I quit buying expansions for Sims 1 after realizing how much money I had spent just to get a few neat features.

Maybe I haven't played it enough, but I'm starting to feel like I just got roped into "starting over" and another $300 worth of expansions to eventually buy.

I haven't looked close enough, but do they have pets in the Sims2? I'll be pretty pissed if they don't. After the Sims1 expansion with pets, there is no reason not to have it...oh I forget, another $50!

No pets that I've seen.
I'm in love with the character generator - I made a guy that looks almost exactly like me.

Aside from that, not so much different. I'll be bored with it within a couple days, but hope my female coutnerpart will play it longer.

Thanks for the write-up, Lala/Akaran. I'll probably finish DLing it just to see what it looks like, but if it involves the same level of tedium and micromanagement as Sims 1, I'm sure I'll delete it soon.

What pissed me off about Sims 1 was the expansions. I had a lovely neighborhood filled with developed sims, the second or third pack comes out (the one where they tinkered with the compatibility matrix), and all the sudden all of my houses are fighting with each other, nobody would go to work, they were fucking PISSING THEMSELVES.

So I crushed the whole hood, and started a new one. The new sims would always do the stupidest shit, it was like watching a fucking 4 year old. Uninstalled after that.

So I guess my question is do you have to monitor your sims like a puppy to keep them from pissing on the floor/starving/missing work?

Hehe. As soon as I realized I had to make sure the fucker ate, made it to work on time, got to bed on time, etc. I lost interest. I have to do that in my real life, I don't need to do it in a game too.

Yikes Lalanae, where do you buy your games? The most I ever spent for one of the expansions was 29.99, and I bought them all.

IMO, there's much less micromanagement involved in Sims 2. Moods seem a little bit easier to change, and I haven't had any week long boughts of depression or hunger that would afflict my sims in the first game.
It's been entertaining so far, but I can't see it holding my attention for any extended period of time. Mostly got it for my girlfriend; she loves it so far.
