(Gallup) 44% of Americans express confidence in the media

Post by Adex_Xeda »

44% of Americans express confidence in the media's ability to report news stories accurately and fairly.

Of the entire sample, 48% perceive the media as "too liberal," 15% as "too conservative," and 33% find it "just about right." The number finding the media too liberal has only gone up 3% in the past year, however.

Frankly, my own personal opinion is that if anything, some major news sources ARE too liberal. Having said that, this poll is basically worthless. The conservative cult mantra has been "The Media is controled by teh Liberals" for years. Act under the assumption that the country is about half left and half right, and that this poll got a good sample, and... Well, that pretty much explains the results right there.

Add the whining liberal numbers in there, and that accounts for anyone who thinks any major news source (no, FOX doesn't count as news =p) is too conservative.

This didnt seem accurate at all, but michael moore was saying (i know, michael moore, but still) that only 30% of the country is republican. Living in florida, i actually know of a shitload more republicans then democrates

I want to know where the 44% of the folks that think the media is accurate live? They can't even get the stats right on a freaking football game. Ultimately they are as accurate as they want to be, if being a tad more accurate hits the bottom line; they will skimp.

What would you expect the poll to say in the wake of a high profile example of journalistic malpractice.

its like asking a poll question about marital infedility in the NBA the week after the Kobe Bryant rape allegations.

"Oh yeah, all those NBA guys run around on their wives, obviously."

there are certainly good reasons for people to mistrust the media. Many media outlets were not properly scrutinizing the situation with Iraq leading up to the war as a prime example. The LIBERAL!!! New York Times had editorials and lots of stories basically saying that the war was completely justified, some of which they had to retract - and at a minimum fact correct others.
