Pet Owners

Post by Siji »

After locking my cats out of my bedroom last night, I awoke this morning to find out they were not at all happy with the action. It got me to thinking, do other people's pets throw fits and find ways to show their attitudes? Certainly they must! So I'd like to hear what your pet(s) do when they're mad at you.

For cats it's always a mix of the following:

1. The hand towels hanging from the stove are strewn about the kitchen
2. Any towels hanging in the bathroom are pulled down and crumpled on the floor
3. Pillows on the couches are on the floor
4. Litter from the litterbox has been kicked out as if there was an excavation
5. Magazines on the coffee table are on the floor
6. Shoes left outside the bedroom are fair game for anything
7. The water bowl is knocked over
8. Any small items on counters are on the floor or under the fridge (my cats like to play hockey on the kitchen floor)

Fun fun fun..

Whenever my wife wants to go out and buy more of those little toy mice for our cat, I just get a yardstick or something and dig the previous 50 or so mice out from under the fridge.

What is it with cats and knocking shit under the fridge?

We have a very "vocal" cat. He bitches us out every time we have been gone a while! There was a period of time where my gf was away on an out of state internship for over 2 months. When she got home, the cat was very crossly meowing at her, clearly displeased, and continued to do so every time he saw her for over a week!

Once in a while, if I make them really mad (like having to shave fur because of matting or an accident), they have been known to pee on or near places I sit.

But mostly it's just scolding, a refusing to go to bed with me (like they normally do), or the like.

My grandmother's cat got pissed of because she let my uncle move back in. Suffice to say, she had to buy new bed sheets.

I love cats and have experiences all those things. Personally we quit buying the mice and just give them the little plastic seal off the milk gallons... they are perfectally fine with it.

My previous cat who passed away about 2 years ago though us to do more funny things though. He could open both the Refrigerator and the Freezor. If we didn't leave enough to eat during the day he would just open the door, open the crisper and pull out whatever meat he wanted. We couldn't leave catfish in the freezer because he would open that door and pull it out on the floor while we were gone. Eventually we had to get some locks for the door to keep him out... funny stuff though.

One of my cats is very vocal and she will bitch at you even if you've just been gone a few hours. She was abused before we got her though so she is very needy with us. She will also take care of entire rolls of toilet paper at a time which can be amusing heh.

The other cat is too smart for his own good. He opens doors and the fridge, always finds new spots to hide and is a master at hiding stuff we need. If he gets mad he will just sit and stare at you and not say anything or move at all. He is 100% black and you can just see his little brain working out new ways to torture you heh.

Ah I love my cats :) And might be getting 2 more we are considering rescuing!

You people are fucking insane. Any cat that doesn't kill stuff and leave it as an offering by your front door should be turned into General Tso's chicken.

It's funny, when we were in CT the cats would leave us prey presents by the door all the time. Now that we're in TX they hardly ever do. I believe the prey here is lots tastier than it is in the Northeast ans they eat most of it. I watched the younger cat catch kill and eat five geckos in the back yard one Saturday a few weeks ago.

I miss my last cat. She was still bringing down birds and rodents at the ripe old age of 17. She also used to beat up the neighborhood dogs, and was evil master of my parent's yard.

Back home in Sudbury, Ontario my cat Shadow would EAT anything and everything she could. And I'm not talking food. Once she got into my closet, and I ended up with little holes in most of my clothes. She also ate the corners of my bedsheets and pillowcases, my bath towels, my dish towels. I'd even come home and find kleenex all over the floor, half eaten. I don't know WHY she did that though. The worst is plastic. I couldn't leave anything plastic around (especially plastic bags) because she'd eat it.

When my husband brought my cats back to Alaska with him while I stayed behind waiting for my Visa, Shadow stopped eating stuff. Well except the time the hubby left some of my warmer clothes out to send back for the winter. Shadow got into that and ate my flannel pj's. Now that I'm in Alaska, she's not really eating things anymore. /shrug

My other cat Xena HATES being locked out of the room. She doesn't destroy things but she's VERY vocal (she's part Siamese). She follows you around the house like a little dog, and when you lock her outside of a room, she'll sit there and meow until you let her in. So, it's basically, let her in the room, or we won't get any sleep.

I love my cats. :D

Dogs > Cats

Growing up, my little overweight wiener dog snatched a bird right out of the air as it swooped by and killed it in one bite. It was an amazingly lucky grab and my dog was as shocked as everyone else but the neighborhood cats had to be impressed with that display of pooch prowess.

My Norwegian cat does that. He keeps the entire area clear of rodents, even the larger types. My two cats here however are indoor cats.

Norman howled at my alarm clock this morning when it went off.. it sounded like he was pissed for being woken up. I'm not really sure..

He'll howl and try to open a door if he is closed out (of like a bathroom) - rather than closed in (we don't ever close him in) - except when on accident I almost closed him in the fridge when he was a kitten and jumped onto a shelf, but thankfully I noticed in time.

Alpine (my dog) doesn't do much to express displeasure these days.

Hah, my cat is similar. He brought back some tiny little mouse one night and then two weeks later started bringing in huge dragonfly after dragonfly....like dragonflies that dwarfed his previous mouse. Then he just chewed off their tails and left them to scoot all over the kitchen floor with no sense of direction.

My old cat jumped off our chevy and snatched a weiner dog...:)

She regularly took birds in mid-air with 5-6 foot jumps...And presented me with fresh rabbit many a morning...

She actually had no bad habits at all...

The last cat I had I was using a squirt bottle to break her of scratching up furniture...Well she took to hunting down my squirt bottle while I wasn't home and squirting it back...:o

She would also climb up my back while I was laying down studying flop along my upper back with her chest on top of my head and swat at my pencil as I wrote...:)

All of my cats are outdoor and most of them hunt. We've had mice, voles, moles, chipmunks, squirrels, birds of various kinds, rabbits and bats brought home. I witnessed one of my cats chasing a fox, which seemed real strange to me. As far as I know, he was unsuccessful.

One of my cats is the clear patriarch. He's about 12 years old, he's missing part of his left ear, and he has big scars all over his body. He is not particularly tolerant of the other cats and will threaten or attack them if he feels they might take something he wants (like human attention or food). The other cats have a very uneasy relationship with him.

The patriarch (Whirly) is very affectionate with people. He loves sitting on peoples laps. He's also a drooler. If you pet him, you're gonna get drooled on. He kneads as well, and he's a very muscular cat with sharp claws. Most people can't really handle playing with Whirly.

He's kind of pushy, too. One night recently, in an act of foresight, I threw Whirly outside before I went to bed (if you let him in overnight, he'll start howling around 4 or 5 in the morning to be let out). Around 4, I heard him howling. "what the fux," I said. "i thought i threw that damn cat outside." Of course, I had thrown him outside. He was standing outside my bedroom window. He would howl for about 15 seconds, then stop howling and scratch violently at the window for a little while, before going on to howling, and so on. "No dice, Whirly!" I thought. "I am a man. I have more willpower than you." Wrong. Wrong! Around 5, I gave in and went downstairs and let him in. There was another complication: I have a waterbed. Thus cats with claws cannot enter my bedroom. I returned to my bed, and the instant I lay down, I heard Whirly howl at my door. "If that cats howls one more fucking time he's going right back outside," I thought. Sure enough, 30 seconds later, Whirly was outside. He left me alone for the rest of the night.

My other cats aren't nearly so pushy. One of them will follow you if you walk around the yard and dart in front of your legs at every opportunity. Some of them will intentionally sit on your newspaper in the morning. The same ones who sit on the paper will also stand directly in front of the computer monitor when you're using that. They're smart little fuckers.

My deceased dog (RIP) was a strange one, too. He would get so excited that he would lose motor control. Sometimes he would get so excited that he would curl into a donut and start chewing on the base of his tail. Very bizarre.

I also have two parrots. One of them is a bitch and will attack you if you try to touch her. The other one will start screeching at 9 AM and not let up until around noon. He has a rather limited vocabulary (his name is Paco, he can say "Paco," "Hello," "Hello Paco," "Love You," "Goodbye," "Thank You," "Pretty Bird," and a few other things. He also knows the names of my family and some of my cats). As such, his daily speech (which consists of the phrases and words he knows intermingled with loud shrieking) tends to become a little repetitive. He will also reject food or toys he does not like by throwing them on the floor. If he thinks his food is too hard, he'll dunk it in his water dish and leave it there for extended periods of time. He is a very messy parrot.

Legs: Lots of cats chew on plastic. Plastic is made with some sort of animal byproduct that some cats sense and crave. They'll chew it up and vomit it right back out. If you get one of those cats, it can really take some effort to hide all the plastic.

hum interesting. My cat only licks plastic, he doesn't chew on it. He also has a love affair with some advertisements we get where he rubs all over it, slobers on it, rolls on it etc. It's just some though.. unfortunately it also included some of my car papers :(

Know the sitting infront of monitors/laying on keyboards/swatting at pencils while taking notes. Mine would plonk down on top of my book and I had to lift his tail to highlight stuff.

Gidday Squirrels!

Norman caught two birds but only killed one - he toyed with the other! He does the dragonfly thing too. He has contemplated hummingbirds but I don't think he's up for it.

And my cat can't jump.

I have a cat that was stray but sort of "adopted" my family. She has full house priveleges now, and all the good stuff and she's probably the favorite of my four cats that we own.

Just about every morning there's a new offering at the doorstep, usually a frog, mouse, bird (or a pile of feathers from a particularly tasty bird) and the occasional snake.

However, there has been a few rabbits, an owl and maybe a few others that I can't remember.

This cat knows it's the shit (for lack of a better term). It walks with both front paws turned slightly inward in sort of a strut.

It looks both ways before crossing the road.

And picking this thing up is like picking up a brick. It's solid muscle, no flab on this one.

And those freakin claws are like fishing hooks. I don't know what's so different about this one but man those claws are NASTY.

That is all.

Dont have any pets myself, but my mother got a cat. Hes around 6 pounds overweight, but not a lazy cat, still hunt and stuff, hes an outdoor cat.
My mom tried to put him on a diet. Didnt exactly make the cat happy. Result, noice downstairs at 2 AM (the got one of those nifty pet entrances in the door so i can get in and out on its own), my mom goes down, and theres the cat, finally finished playing with its victim, and are now happily eating a large toad.
Next day it went back to its old diet.

My cat gets upset when we watch TV and will starting howling when she hears us turn it on.

In general she is very needy, when she wants to be pet she will lay on top of one of your arms and you better be petting her with the other one.

She also likes playing with balloons. The first time she popped one she watched the pieces on the ground for a minute, then she attempted to eat one of them. Even after popping one, she still enjoys batting balloons around.

Interesting. Well, when I first found out about her eating plastic, I did do my best to hide it all. Of course, when bringing groceries home in plastic bags, the little shit (and I say that in a loving way) would immediately chew on the bag handles while I was bringing in the rest of the bags. Because of all the chewing and eating of various things, I'm now very anal when it comes to leaving certain things lying around the house. :)

Both of my cats are indoor cats, though they still have their claws (I personally think it is cruel to declaw a cat). We do bring them out on a leash and harness every so often so they can play in the grass. Just over a week ago my little Xena was chasing the bugs outside and she ended up pouncing on a yellowjacket and it stung her paw. I felt so bad. :(

I was forever scarred against having house cats after renting a house with my cousin. She bought a kitten, and since I don't like animals crawling over me at night I kept the bedroom door closed. However, since I had a waterbed and the door closed my room was very warm and inviting to said kitty..

One night the kitten had snuck into the room before I went to bed and hidden between the wall and the bed. Blissfully unaware of the feline presence in my dominion I went to sleep.

Around about 5am I was awoken by a combination of the smell of ammonia and wet farting sounds. As I became fully awake I was overcome by the incredible stench eminating from somewhere nearby.

It happens that my cousin was feeding the cat on cows milk, and as is fairly common the cat was lactose intolerant, hence the poor thing had quite the dose of diarrhoea. What I was less compassionate about was that it had chosen to let fly it's watery, stinking deposit while squatting on my comforter.

Desperately fighting the urge to vomit and exacerbate the situation, I carried the whole mess into the laundry to rinse it off, strip and soak the cover.

Needless to say, proper "cats milk" was mandatory from then on.

I have an african gray parrot that unfortunately sat in the same room as me back when I was playing starsiege tribes and subsequently knows more swear words for his own good.

I also have a german shepherd, but he is so intelligent and well trained I virtually have never had a problem with him..

Recently I just got a bengal cat but he is still a kitten and hasn't really developed any bad habits yet, except that he loves harrassing my dog and trying to get into the aquarium. He's pretty indifferent to the bird though because the bird was there first, so he's pretty used to it. Plus the parrot shrieks every time the cat is in viewing distance.

My cat has lots of quirks like that....

If you leave for a day she finds a roll of paper towels and runs it around the house... it's a pain to pick up but amusing.

She also does the lay on your keyboard and swat at your hand as your moving the "mouse" around.

I've never, ever been a fan of cats before... this one kind of landed in my lap unintentionally (was an abused kitten, and no one else could take her).

She extremely needy, but fun most of the time :)

I love my two cats. They are my boys! :)

We found Cricket when he was about 3 weeks old (2 years ago), and adopted Manty from the SPCA about a year and a half ago. He was 2-3 years old when we got him.

Cricket doesn't like to be shut out of rooms. If you close the door, he will sit outside of it and meow. If you still don't respond, he will start jumping at it. He jumps up towards the knob and slides down the door. Also, every time that anyone goes into the bathroom, he bolts in after the person and jumps up on the sink. You are then required to give him as much water as he wishes, or he won't stop meowing at you. That gets kind of annoying, especially when I'm raiding and only have a few seconds and run and pee. I can't stop to let him drink at his leisure. He's a good cat though and for the most part keeps to himself. He is only really lovey in the morning or when we get first home after being out.

Manty is very affectionate and vocal. Everytime I walk into a room he is in, he will stand up and meow at me. When I walk into the bedroom, he runs past me and plops down on the floor and meows. The one thing I don't like about him is he is very demanding come breakfast time. I feed him when I get up at 5:30am, so he is on that schedule. If I am not out of bed at exactly 5:30am, he will start nibbling on my fingers to wake me up. If I hide my fingers from him, he will nibble my chin. If I push him off the bed and roll over, he will jump back up and lay on my chest/side/back. He won't let me go back to sleep until he is fed. :p

:<3: them though, the little shits.

Our previous cat was very vindictive. If you did anything to bruise his ego he would hide somewhere down the hall and start crying so pififull you just had to go see if anything was wrong. When you were halfway down the hall, he would pounce out and attack your ankles then run off.

When my cat was smaller he didnt like us playing EQ very much. He would hide on the roll-out shelf for the keyboard and hit your fingers when you tried to use the keys. Now that he's older he just moseys infront of the screen and attacks the cursor.

My old cat Ethan (RIP) would often let me know who was boss when I was reading text books or writing something in a notebook on my bed. He would saunter up and just plop down on top of my book or notebook. Then he'd casually look over his shoulder at me as if to say "what are you waiting for? pet me" If I was holding the book, he'd climb up along side of me, look at the book, look at me (as if he couldn't understand wtf was so interesting) and then try and wiggle into my lap.

He was never bitchy about stuff, just very nonchalant about showing us what he thought we should be doing or not doing.

2 of my indoor cats have an internal clock in them. If they are not let out at exactly 7:15 am and 6:30 pm they ensue on what must be the loudest whining known to man. The youngest one used to be able to crawl UNDER doors when she was a baby, was the funniest thing ever. The outdoor cat is the friendlist thing ever, but still brings us her trophies of mice and the occasional bird even though she is close to 16 now. Oh and the kitty litter being on the ground, its like a gray Sahara Desert in our laundry room.

i got a cat that chews on cardboard boxes. smaller ones. bite off a piece, chew on it, then spit it out. later she'll sleep in the box. she'll do this to a box until there are hardly any sides left to it. then we get her a new one.

The other one has a dangerous habit of sleeping in my bass drum...Sometimes i dont really notice him when i go to play :-/ Poor guy :(

You really shouldn't give you cats milk, at least not the kind you drink. It's not good for them, especially in large amounts and/or on a consistent basis. You can buy milk type supplements at pet stores that is much better for them and made especially for cats.

My folks cat was out prowling late one night so the folks went to bed leaving a window open just a crack so he could let himself in.

He thanked them but leaving 11 1/2 dead shroos around the house. 3 1/5 or so were on my brothers bed when he woke up.

So thoughtful :D

When I was around 7 or 8, my sister would incessantly bother my parents about getting her a cat. They finally caved for Christmas, and bought my sister a gray kitten that had pinkish spots on it's fur. My sister named the kitten Bonnie, for it's blue eyes.

As Bonnie grew up, it became apparent that the cat was either posessed by something evil, or partially retarded. She turned into an attack cat.

When the family was out, she would hide under the couches in the living room.. and our family would take bets on who she would attack first - usually me or my older brother.

We would walk in the door cautiously. Bonnie would lunge from under a couch or chair and jump into the air. She would claw you with her back claws or bite you, then return quickly back to her hiding spot, so you couldn't catch her.

She would often jump from the stairs onto your lap (the couch was nearly under the stairs) and scratch at your face. Finally after she attacked my dad so many times, they took her to a barn and left her :).

Heh the reminds me of my Grandmother's cat Mariah...

I will never forget the night i was alone at my grandmothers creaky-floored hilltop house reading "The Shining"...The light went out so I lit a candle to go to bed...I was walking down the hall when I heard Mariah growling behind me...I spun around and she came running down the hall full-tilt boogie running up one wall then another as she ran towards me...

I turned and sprinted for my room...:)...jumped in and slammed the door behind me...scared the bejesus outta me...

My cat decapitates mice, as opposed to leaving them whole. She is defiant. On top of that she will tear up any sort of bags she can get ahold of including a new bag of kitty litter and a bag of diapers. She also loves to scatter anything and everything she can. While she enjoys stealing the dog food from their bowls and leaving it places, Im pretty sure her favorite angry past time is knocking boxes of packing peanuts all over the ground and scattering them all over the house.

Bengal cats are really awesome, my family got a pair of them about twelve years ago from an animal shelter when they were only about 5 weeks old. The female ended up running away, she was always skittish, but the male is still our main family cat. He bulked up from about .6 pounds when we got him to somewhere around 10 today, and is still very active.

My brothers girlfriend may be helping her employer breed some in the future so hopefully I can get another Bengal, they look so amazing too and the one we have is a very relaxed laid back cat but he is incredibly picky about his food.

Cats are awesome, though I do like dogs aswell. My favorite cat of mine has killed a young raccoon as well as gray squirrels and flying squirrels and large rats. His name is Denali, he's a 20lb Maine Coon Cat, which is nearly as big as a full grown raccoon(25lb). He reminds me more of a bobcat or lynx than the average house cat. Other than being bad shedders, they are my favorite cat species. Everyone should get one, they can be your guard cat!

That's just an example picture that looked a LOT like my Maine Coon, tis not my kitty.
