WASHINGTON - Teresa Heinz Kerry said Monday that President Bush is unwilling to change, a character flaw that shows "inattention and indifference" rather than strength.
Speaking to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the wife of Democratic Sen. John Kerry said her husband is a more capable leader who would respond to issues important to Hispanics, something she said the Republican incumbent has not done.
She said of her husband, "His value in understanding complexity and not being afraid to face it and take action and follow through have been a trademark throughout his life."
Of Bush, the Republican-turned-Democrat said the president "demonstrates he cannot and will not change. The president thinks this shows strength when all it shows is inattention and indifference."
Voters see Bush as the more decisive of the two candidates, according to a recent Associated Press-Ipsos poll. Of registered voters, 75 percent labeled Bush as decisive while 37 percent described Kerry that way.
But along with the ability to decide comes stubbornness, many believe. Bush is considered stubborn by 75 percent of the people polled, Kerry 39 percent.
Heinz Kerry's 30-minute talk focused on health care, education and jobs. She received a standing ovation when she said her husband would sign into law the "DREAM ACT" if elected president. The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act would allow undocumented young people to become legal U.S. residents, a status that could earn them in-state college tuition and other benefits.
Said Steve Schmidt, a spokesman for the Bush-Cheney campaign: "John Kerry has taken eight positions on the war in Iraq and has taken both sides of nearly every important issue facing America today."
I really don't like Teresa at all. I am scared what she will do if Kerry gets into office. I will be completely honest, and say I don't like her more nor less than Laura Bush...so I guess it wouldn't really matter to me.
Every time I see Teresa on tv, I cringe, that voice is so f'en annoying, and condescending, like she is a monarch or something...
I think she rocks and is RIGHT on target. As I have said before on this board no less, Bush is like a Jr.High kid or Toddler who can't see the next decision based upon the one he is about to make. Being inflexable when presented with credible evidence show stupidity in my book... which is one of THE main reasons I'm not supporting Bush this time around. I'm dealing with a two year old at home, I do not want to have to deal with another one at the White House.
She says what she thinks (kerry, bush, laura etc dont) and you have to respect that, regardless of your opinion, I would say the same about Zell Miller, but i refuse to say anything positive about a racist intolerant facist 87 IQ redneck, call me a bigot for doing so

I don't think she had to marry for money, she is the one with the family fortune and the one backing Kerry (of course). She has an attitude that I am not sure I want to see as First Lady. I don't think we, as Americans are involved in the political process as much as we should be ( I am including myself). It is defeating to think you finally make a sane discision that you can live with and go out and vote. Then the electorial votes from the lobbying groups in each state place there votes, making the peoples vote null anyway. /sigh It is a tough time!

I think it's funny that Kerry rails againt practically everyone for supposedly questioning his patriotism (yet never points out specifically who and how), then his WIFE calls Dick Cheney "unpatriotic" and no one seems to notice the irony. Then you have Kerry questioning Cheney and co's patriotism for not serving in Vietnam, and John Edwards calling Cheney "un-American," yet the press continues to unquestioningly go along with "Kerry's indignant defiance of people questioning his patriotism" BS.
Kerry, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, bristled at Cheney's attack on his patriotism during the Republican National Convention in New York and his ability to serve as U.S. commander-in-chief.
I personally didn't see Cheney attack Kerry's patriotism (I saw him say Kerry's military service should be praised), but I guess Reuters did.

Laura Bush was 17 or 18 when coming home late one night she ran a stop sign and hit a car, the driver of the car was a boy she went to school with and was friends with. He did die. They were friends but not dating.

First ladies usually grab on to a topic that no one can disagree with, ride it for all it is worth, beat the shit out of that dead horse, and then drop it all together. I'm all for equal rights and all, but I like a first lady who does nothing much. Visits people, talks here and there, doesn't get front page coverage on the newspaper....I like that. I don't think it is so much what happened 18 - 20 years ago can effect your life, I am sure there were personal issues to work through. I just don't want it brought up in my living room. I don't care; It should have been dealt with at the time. The 'other' party is just mud slinging and I find it offensive. There are sooo many pertinent issues that should be addressed by the politicians, and letting the American people know their stance on them. I just don't want to know about incidentals in the past that don't pertain to running the country.
I would comment, but not having been fully informed to the highest degree of accuracy, I hesitate to articulate for fear that I may deviate from the true course of rectitude. =)
