DOTA - WC3 custom map

Post by Drolgin Steingrinder »

Anyone playing this? I'm having a lot of fun with it, if you discount all the games where asshat whiners leave after 3 minutes.

Let me know if anyone wants to hook up and play, either on Europe or US East!

Yep! I'm a pro on that map! :)

Teamwork is teh key! When members pool the gold to the keyplayers (or just when in need), it usually leads to victory!

What Hero you usually play Drolg?

I prefer to play -ar games, just seems more fun that way. If I had to choose, I'd say - depending on opponents - Death Prophet, Lycanthrope, new Nerubian is fun, uh...techies, if on a team with someone to play tank for me...

Edit: Omniknight is amazing when you get a good start - rawr! Also have a soft spot for Zeus and Dorf Sniper.

Sounds like you're playing one of the weird versions..

http://www.clanfury.net/

dota 3.6 is the latest and most balanced version, that's the one most of the people at http://www.thewarcenter.com play.

Anyways, I used to play it a lot, I mostly play 1v1 regular game now though. =) dota is still fun though!

Sorry - the full name of the map I'm talking about is 'DoTA Allstars' - it's an offense map using (revamped) heroes from the original map. Give it a whirl, it's a lot of fun.

http://www.rtsgames.com/dota is the official site - 5.61b latest version.

I started playing this (Allstars) a lot a few weeks back, even got a couple of my friends hooked on it at the same time. We usually host a game and all get on the same team, it keeps at lest one of the teams from having the usual assortment of leavers and laggers or newbies.

Unfortunatly I play on USWest (California) or I'd look into playing some games...

Man, I hate to say it, but it looks cool, now.

I played a really early version of all stars, a long time ago, and it sucked ass. ASS. But looking at that hero list it looks like things have totally changed, and if they've pulled off the rock solid balance that made the original dota so good, I'll have to try it again.

I too play this all the time. Name is HiThisisRubert on USEast. By far the most fun I have had with Wc3, and this map is the only reason I still play it at all anymore. The constant updates and hero tweaks keep it fun and interesting.

I bought War3 just for this map after seeing a friend play it a lot. I play it all the time when EQ is frustrating. I'm MrGraham on USWest if anyone ever wants to get together, my friends and I host frequently.

My friends and I have been playing "DOTA" since first semester last year. It's a ton of fun to LAN with your friends and all play on a team against other people. I still have a soft spot for the original, RoC version which someone linked to (3.6) but Allstars is what most people play these days. I don't like it as much, it seems a lot more imbalanced to me, but they're working on it (Hi SA nerf, FINALLY). Furion still needs to feel the pain, though.

We almost always play allrandom and a lot of my gripes result from that, I should really try pick games - I just get really frustrated when a random game is essentially predecided because one team gets 2 or 3 stunners and the other, while they don't have powerful characters, just can't get the kills the other team does as a result of their lack of stun moves and almost inevitably loses.

But I don't want to start a balanced/imbalanced discussion here, that could get ugly. We should def play a VV game sometime. I'm p00n on USEast

Also, for those having trouble with leavers, there's a clan called Clan TDA which sets up games with more 'hardcore' DOTA players who are, in my experience, a lot less likely to leave a game. I think it's channel #tda and people just broadcast into it as games are made.

Channel is 'Clan TDA' - they've implemented a peon banner bot there though, so unless you've got a ranked account you're SOL.

Have they really implanted one? It's about time if they did, TDA was just as bad as public - maybe worse near the end of the summer.

Yeah, the BanBot is in there almost all the time. Sucks if you play on Europe or west normally, or if you just (like me) don't care much for regular WC3 :(

Ranked as in, ranked? Or just a non-peon icon?

In-house games are definitely worth it, you can pop out 25 wins with a race easily under the new ladder system, regardless of how bad you suck.

The new forums are at:

http://216.32.84.74/forums/index.php

I think they have started pumping out too many new versions recently myself, not enough testing of the new heros or tweaked items. Seems everytime they make a new version they have to follow it up within a couple days to fix all the balance and bug problems. Last version I really liked was 5.61b or so.

Hey!
For all you europeans, if you use IRC, go to Quakenet and join channel #dotapickup.euro
You sign up for a game, as soon as there's 10 people signed up, someone hosts the game on the European gateway and you start playing.

The nice thing about this is, that there's active admins, so if someone leaves mid-game, you report them and they get banned!

This way you'll have a lot more fun games, with no people leaving mid-game etc. Vary much fun!

I suppose you could play with the euros. I guess you'd have a lot of delay/lag though.
