He's worried about partisans posing as undecided, ummm that works both ways moronThe officials said Bush's negotiating team plans to resist the middle debate, which was to be Oct. 8 in a town meeting format in the crucial state of Missouri.
The Bush-Cheney campaign announced that its debate negotiation team will be led by James A. Baker III, who was secretary of state under President George H.W. Bush. Baker headed the Bush campaign's Florida recount response in 2000 and is the current president's personal envoy on Iraqi debt resolution

Aye, pissing contests where you can identify mindsets, and openly compare policies and procedures that the candidate "says" they are going to do.
That is of course until one of the two starts deflecting answers, and changing topics midstream....
But yes, they are supposed to be pissing contests. The best part is, as the viewer, you get to decide which piss stream went further. It is another way to defend your "educated vote" to those that disagree with your choice...or agree for that matter.

Sadly the townhall style debate is the one that has an almost open format, it is always considered the one debate that you can not script, the debate he has backed out of is just that kind of debateDeward wrote:These debates are all bullshit. THe questions are alls cripted and known ahead of time. It is also another illegal campaign contribution that gives free airtime to the two major parties while excluding any and all third party representatives.

I find it hard to believe that anyone on either side of the spectrum is suprised by this. I mean last time out GW "won" the debate by looking like a whipped puppy and making people feel sorry for him about how bad he got his ass handed to him. This time out there are tons of new issues he has generated and an open forum debate (especially if Nader were allowed into the mix) would be feeding him to the wolves.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

You voted for Buchanan?Kluden wrote:Aruman wrote:Did you vote for Clinton?Kluden wrote:If either candidate "bows out" of a debate, or sends someone in their place...they will lose my vote. So, if both candidates do it, I stay home.
Nope. Voted third party.
I'm sorry but third party voting is just throwing your vote away really.

Fuck I hate comments like that. If the person is voting based on what that candidate fields as a good platform, it's not throwing their vote away, it's voting how they see fit.Adelrune Argenti wrote:You voted for Buchanan?Kluden wrote:Aruman wrote:Did you vote for Clinton?Kluden wrote:If either candidate "bows out" of a debate, or sends someone in their place...they will lose my vote. Throwing your vote away is not turning out to vote (unless if your choice is to vote no-one because of the options), or voting because someone is telling you whom to vote for, and not coming to the decision on your own accord.

You are so right. How could I be so blind? I would hate for our beloved leader to participate in something you deem "lame". True, but if he had any balls he, of course has the power to do the right thing despite what his advisors deem best for "picking up a couple votes"Bubba Grizz wrote:You know I don't think that Bush himself said, "I don't feel like doing that debate. I'd rather play Madden that night or get into a pickup raid". I think he has a team that makes all these decisions for him. He may have some input but overall it is his team that lets him know what needs doing.

But if he's such the better candidate, and has such the better policies and results then he should be eager to show up his rival at any chance he could get.Bubba Grizz wrote:You know I don't think that Bush himself said, "I don't feel like doing that debate. It wasn't throwing my vote away, it was voting for change. Atleast that's how I feel about it. I understand that you, and many others, feel that voting third party is either throwing your vote away, or voting for the incumbent.
I excercise my right to vote. That's not throwing it away, or a waste, or anything of the sort. And no, I didn't vote for Buchanan. I don't think he was on the ballet in my state back in '96.
