Rammstein - Reise Reise

Post by Sionistic »

Rammstein's new album "Reise, Reise" should be making its American release sometime late October but no date is certain. The singles from the album are already creating heat in Europe. The song "Mein Teil" which literally translates to "You are what you eat" was a song about cannibalism, apparantly the video was even too much for many euros and the video was either pulled or only aired late. Even though it debuted at #2 in the charts. So Rammstein decided to release a second single, "Amerika".

Amerika is a song criticising American Comercialism. I really did not want to see rammstein start making political messages but the video they made was quite amusing. Taking place on the surface of the moon, they play in american space suits. They show video of africans eatting american pizza, santa talking to kenyans, indies eatting hamburgers, and a muslim taking off his name brand sneakers and praying near a large wall of an oil refinery.

To make sure americans get the message quite a few of the lyrics are in english includding the chorus. Other talking about mickey mouse in paris, coca cola, wonderbras, and sometimes war, saying "this is not a love song" a few times just to hammer down the point.

Cant wait to hear the rest of the album, any other big rammstein fans here?
edit: heres a link to see the video

I actually bought their cd with their most popular song("Du Hast") on it. I haven't heard much of them lately and my local radio station isn't any help.

I like most of their music I've heard and it has a unique sound that I prefer over the more conventional death-metal bands, but I normally like to understand the lyrics I listen to as they lend a feel to a song. This sounds like pretty good stuff though so I might have to check it out...

Looking forward to hearing the whole cd, i really dig the video.

I just bought their DVD "Lichtspielhaus" hot damn its wierd. It's about 3 hours long full of all their vids and concert footage. They were badass at the Pledge of Allegiance tour because they laid off on the whole homoeroticism speil, and instead went for the pyro show; but yeah a lot of their concert footage is of their whipping out fake wangs on stage and donning dominatrix suits.

Funny you should mention that. I saw them open for another band I was going to see back when "Du Hast" was newish, and they did some crazy shit. Lots of pyro, he shot like a flaming crossbow at something, and at one point he pulled like a dildo out of his pants that was connected to a stream of water, and was like "pissing" all over the place for a whole song. It was weird as shit.

Haha, Sylvus speaks of Live Aus Berlin. It was a 2 day concert, a bunch of bands first night, and rammstein the second day. Rammstein likes to use a lot of light effects and A LOT of pyro in their concerts. Flamethrowers, bows that shoot waves of sparks, a suit of fire, gas masks that shoot streams of fire from the mouth peice, entertaining stuff.
and just the level the tales, the singer only humps the keyboard guy in ONE song. :)

I wouldn't really consider Rammstein "death metal"...the songs (on "Sehnsucht" anyway) are straight ahead power metal with a little extra crunch in the tradition of Accept or Scorpions.

When I think "death metal" I think Norwegians with a penchant for stage blood and makeup, or Cannibal Corpse. In either case grunted/growled vocals and blastbeats are a trademark to that genre.

Funny that more than a few heavy German bands (Accept, KMFDM, Rammstein) have homoerotic overtones in their songs...
