From son of God to son of Jorell!

Post by noel »

It's been announced that James Caviezel, of recent 'The Passion of the Christ' fame will be playing Superman in the upcoming movie.

Is it just me or is that like a demotion?

I hope they let this Superman kick a metric fuckton of ass. That might make up for the asskicking Caviezel got as Jesus.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Most people wouldn't be able to pick Captain Marvel out from a line-up. You'll never see a movie about him that isn't preceeded by "and his Backdoor Beauties".

The only heros that I find are interesting from DC are Superman, Batman and Green Lantern.

In the comics, Hulk totally destroyed the thing. He was about to deliver the killing blow and was teleported away by, I forget who, Dr. Strange I think. The only ones that can even come close to competing with hulk in the marvel universe in strength ONLY, is Thor and Juggernaut. No one else even comes close. Talking pure strength here.

Yeah i know that!

But i remember a comic where the Champion of the Elders of the Universe challenged all Earths (strength-based) heroes to a match in the Boxing-Ring!

He wanted to see who was the best skilled fighter and who had the bravest fighter-heart!

They had to use Boxing gloves! :D

He teleported Hulk back to Earth as soon as he entered the ring though, since Hulk went into a Rage and smashed his gloves...

Thor felt he was above such a competition since he was a God and all.

SO! The best strength-based Earth heroes(measured in skill and fightingspirit) vs the Champion was The Thing with Colossus as 2nd! :)

Check out that episode! Hilarious!

-

In an anything goes battle, i know Hulk stomps Thing, since his strength increases with Rage and Things strength is constant.

-

If Thing would start out fresh with an 100 ton benchpress he would max at that and never reach 120 ton while Hulk may start out with 80 ton, then get angry, press 100 ton, then get even angrier and press 120 ton and so forth.

If he gets really angry(someone calling him a bad name or complaining about his haircut), i assume he could double his starting strength.

Actually in the Marvel table top RPG, Spiderman was about as strong as Collosus, so poor old Collosus wouldn't even rank in the uber boxing superhero circut. Statwise in the same game (Wish was done with the assistance of the MArvel Comics continuity guru) the Hulk starts out stronger than any other hero/villian except Thor and some female villian Doctor Doom boosted up with his knowledge, but the more pissed he gets, the stronger he gets with no known upper limit.

Man do I feel like a geek for knowing that....

But back on topic, I liked the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, some of the comedy era Justice League, Batman, and the Flash from DC. All the other Marvel Stuff owns DC in story.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Jessica Alba in the Fantastic Four? Who would she be? Sue Storm was a blonde. Who would be the FF's first villan? It would be too early for Galactus so I am thinking Dr. Doom?

Since we're talking about comics, I suggest the Amalgam series. Its the DC world and Marvel world combined by some strange force. Its 4 issues long and the best I read. It even had spin offs like Dark Claw (Wolverine and Batman merged together), Superman and Cap America merged, Spiderman and Superboy merged (Bizzaro and Carnage merged for this one too).

Anyways, the Marvel world fights the DC, Hulk was matched against Superman and it was close.

That sounds strange! Perhaps they added Agility/Speed/Skill etc to a total combat value which would make Spidey a much tougher opponent for Colossus, just watch how easily Spidey plays around with the X-men in Secret Wars 1 when he surprises them! (jumping around, shooting web in their eyes, swinging with web around the scenery etc, totally surprising them)

According to the comics, (measuring strength) i've always thought Spidey was at around 10 tons and Colossus around the 70-80s.

That's just lifting capacity though. Spidey may of course be more dangerous due to speed, skill, quicker strikes, strikes coming from unpredictable angles etc etc

aint-it-cool.com wrote:Capone: Are you surprised that you got in front of an audience today and didn't get a single superhero question? It almost seemed like everyone here was here to watch a TV show.

B.S.: I think they were. It's certainly not like at the Comic Con.
Capone: Well, you won't be so lucky with me, my friend. Where do you stand right with casting SUPERMAN? Is it really going to be called SUPERMAN RETURNS?

B.S.: That's strictly a working title. But it is a return story. It puts the first films in a kind of vague history. So what it doesn't do is tread over the 1978 Richard Donner film, it doesn't tread over "Smallville." It elaborates on the existence of Superman in the world in a history. He's out of the culture and then he returns.
Capone: Will you be using footage from the other films?

B.S.: (Long pause) It's possible. There's an introduction sequence that may or may not involve something like that, but not in the way you might be thinking.
Capone: Is there any truth to the reports that you have a deadline to lock in the main cast or Warner Bros. will step in a do it for you?

B.S.: No, that's absurd. I read that too and think it's just bizarre about James Caviezel, who's a wonderful actor. But, no, I'm committed to casting an unknown.
Capone: So asking you what that unknown might be would be pointless, because we probably would not have heard of this person, right?

B.S.: Right.
Looks like the transition from Jesus to Superman won't happen after all...

B.S. is Bryan Singer...this part of the interview was adressing the casting for the new Superman movie.

The thing about Marvel is that they have the whole universal heroes and villains which pretty much dwarf all of the earth heroes. Like Surfer, Adam Warlock, The Celestials, Thanos, Galactus, Death, Infinity, Eternity, etc. The power of people in the universe series is limitless it seems. The strongest villain pretty much ever though was Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet, but without the gauntlet he still kicked ass.

For people that don't know about the Infinity Gauntlet, if you wear it, you have total control over EVERYTHING in existance, including time. In a single controlled thought he destroyed half of the universe, for instance.

I didn't think Daredevil was that bad personally. I was even able to ignore Ben Affleck. It wasn't in a class with Spiderman and the X-Men movies but Colin Farrell did a good job as Bullseye.

I'm surprised they're making Luke Cage, Man of Steel and Ghost Rider movies. I'd rather see some other characters.

Daredevil wasn't too bad, I enjoyed it the 1st time through, but it is just one of the weakest of the marvel movies so far. I'd say Hulk was worse than DD actually. If they are doing Namor I hope it ends up being as good as Spiderman or X-Men has been.

My most anticipated marvel movie has to be Thor though, which is in pre-production, but they say it's supposed to be in Asgard and will be like Lord of the Rings meets Marvel superheroes, and that sounds damned good to me.

I haven't heard, but I know for sure that both Thor and Namor are planned by Marvel. I saw an interview with Avi Arad(Marvel CEO), saying that they are in the discussion/planning mode for Thor and that the "Sub-Mariner" or "Namor" movie is already in production. For Thor it is hard to say who could play it.

Thor is not a girly man, as Ahnald would say...He could not be played by any pretty boy actor we know of. He needs to be burly as fuck and warrior style. Thor, for those you don't know, is beyond many familiar Marvel heroes such as Spiderman or Daredevil. Thor is a Marvel hero based on the Norse god of thunder and in the Marvel universe Thor lives upon Asgard, the realm of Gods.

The movie they are planning is not the popular Thor who comes to Earth to fight along side such teams as the Avengers. In this movie, it is based IN Asgard, the fantastical realm where gods, demons and magic dwell. What Avi Arad said about this movie is that it will be LoTR meets Marvel. It will be Thor as a hero of an amazing fantasy realm. My guess is that the nemesis would be Loki, the god of mischief, the arch-villain of Thor, who is the Bristlebane of Marvel, but much more sinister.

If they make this movie as well as it could be, It will be orgasmic for me. :P
