DETROIT (Reuters) - A U.S. court on Thursday dismissed the convictions of two Arab men, the first to be prosecuted and tried on terror-related charges following the Sept. 11 attacks, after the government conceded errors in handling the case.

A U.S. District Court Judge in Michigan granted the wish of the U.S. Justice Department (news - web sites), which said in a filing this week that prosecutors "committed a pattern of mistakes and oversights" that hindered the defendants from reviewing evidence used against them.

"The prosecution's understandable sense of mission and its zeal to obtain a conviction overcame not only its professional judgment, but its broader obligations to the justice system and the rule of law," Judge Gerald Rosen of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan wrote in a ruling.

I know I feel safer...

well just think of the thousands of terror suspects who are rotting in prison cells that havent gotten a trial yet! I'm sure at least a couple of them might be terrorists.

I know i will feel much safer when ahscrof is spending my tax dollars, instead on the defecet or other programs, on "the war on porn"

I'm all for arresting terrorists.. when there is proof. Not to mention they need to be charged and convicted like all other criminals.

I don't think anyone is whining when the Gov. prevents act of terrorism...

What educated people are ANGRY about is the blatent disregard for our freakin' constution. It's not that people are being held to await trial. People are being held AND NOT EVEN BEING CHARGED! The Republicans always want to make a big production about the constution and our "rights" yet at the same time they have no problem trampling on those rights if it fits their agenda. This is the United States of America, we DO NOT hold people without just cause and DO NOT convict people without trial by Jury... until now.

To make the country safe this same kind of bullshit went down in another country almost exactly 70 years ago... interestingly enough it was party comprised of Nationalistic Racists as well. But of course History NEVER repeats itself so we should have nothing to worry about.
