EQ on 48 hours this Friday
C/P'ed from my guild board.
-----
48 Hours representative David Kohn sent in this snippet for you all:
CBS News Magazine '48 Hours Investigates' is broadcasting a story on the controversy of EverQuest - are some people addicted to the game?
The story will air this Friday October 18 on CBS at 8PM E.T/P.T.
Should be an interesting thing to watch, 48 hours was filming at the Boston Fan Faire so those of you who haven't been to one may get to see a bit of what goes on there.

Clearly nothing good will come of it. Has there EVER been an article, interview, or story on EverQuest that didn't take the "all EQ players are weirdos and freaks" approach? Or perhaps the equally common "video games are the work of Satan himself, and will lead to the downfall of society as we know it" angle?
In all honesty, I don't really care how this game and its players are portrayed in the media. No skin off my back. But it is somewhat insulting to see the gaming populace so grossly and uncharacteristically painted as the type of rejects who attend conventions in full costume, live in their parents' basements, and whose only other notable interests are Star Trek and chess.
The people who actually DO fit this description are a very noticeable minority of the total EQ-playing population. I wish some news crew would come along and report that story for a change.

The preview thing I saw sets it up as a slame EQ and its players piece

Take the above example and apply it to many stories you read in the newspaper or see on television. Media fucks everythng up all the time and paints it's opinions with a wide brush. It's really frustrating to see inaccurate or biast reporting, but it does happen all the time. But it is somewhat insulting to see the gaming populace so grossly and uncharacteristically painted

Actually I recall reading an article about a mental health clinic that uses EQ as a means to help Anti-Social people (sociopaths) overcome their behavioral problems by forcing them to interact peacefully with total strangers.
In this faceless virtual environment there is no real incentive to be kind and polite, therefore, for these people it is a true challenge. And it works.
Additionally, EQ is used for other mental and developmental skill development. The examle that comes to mind is a growing phenominon in America as a result of the Single Parent homes as well as homes where both parents work fulltime. The problem is seems is that children are reaching adulthood without any real "Social Skils" such as appropriate behaviors in a social setting. I had a kid that worked for me that was a real social retard. He was the guy you see at a party that blurts out the most inappropriate shit at exactly the wrong time.
EQ allows people to learn to develope these skills while maintaining a degree of anonymity where they will not be ridiculed by people they know when they fuck up. I believe the "Class Room" is Dreadlands and Lake of Ill Omen hehe
Anyway, I really wish I could remember where I read that shit... it was a good read and for a change actually cast a possitive light on EQ.
I typed this fast, and did not check for spelling errors and other shit.

Oh gawd. I just read a short synopsis of the story and it's about that dude with mental problems that killed himself last year.
With such a pain in the ass mother no wonder...
Seriouly though, this attention whore will take her story of pain and suffering and anguish against Sony to pretty much every media that will listen to her.
She'll prolly be on Regis next week.
Who knows.. Maybe Springer will pick up on this and she can try to throw chairs at Absor or some shit.
*edit* spelling

I think this explains how Agdarr got access. But he turned out to be a failed experiment since he wasn't able to interact peacefully with just about anyone.Actually I recall reading an article about a mental health clinic that uses EQ as a means to help Anti-Social people (sociopaths) overcome their behavioral problems by forcing them to interact peacefully with total strangers.

I wanted to feel sorry for the Woolley, but I can't. I do feel sorry for the mother for coming off sounding so stupid though. I dunno, I guess I'm just sick of parents blaming something/someone else for every fuckups their kids ever did.
It's a bias POS of a segment if you ask me. They kept repeating and focusing on the word "addicting" throughout the entire thing. Here's an example for you fucktards, I was ADDICTED to Pac-Man in high school, pouring countless quarters into the game, cutting classes and hid myself at the arcades, etc, but I didn't blow my head open with a fucking gun now did I? And yes, I'm quite certain that I am addicted to EQ (still), but I DIDN'T BLOW MY HEAD OPEN WITH A FUCKING GUN NOW DID I?!!!
Stupid people just pisses the living sins outta me.
Edit: fixed link.
