In order to evaluate World of Warcraft's account-creation process and server performance under heavy loads, Blizzard will be conducting a seven-day stress test beta in the days ahead. This test will require over 100,000 players to download the World of Warcraft stress test beta client, create an account, and log on to play when the test goes live!
To make the client available for download to such a large audience, we have partnered with FilePlanet, GameSpy's Web-based file-delivery service. Visit http://www.fileplanet.com to learn more about the World of Warcraft stress test beta and to sign up for a chance to participate in this special event.

Yep...this both scares me and excites me at the same time. A lot of work still needs to be done on the game still...but even with that being said, it is light years ahead of other MMORGs that have come out recently in terms of polish, and I would happily slap down my$50 bucks for the game, and pay the $16/month instantly.
I think that Blizzard is following a more formal and lengthier testing plan than is normal for video games. To be honest, their plan looks more like what a professional software development company does.
I would not be surprised if they do the stress testing now and then mull over the testing results for a month before they are ready for open Beta.
Damn, talk about a bad time for my dog to eat through the Patch cable from my modem Wireless is sounding much better...at least until I can get a conveniently located cable outlet
Akaran of Mistmoore, formerly Akaran of Veeshan I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.
This gamew is awesome. Easily the most entertaining MMO I've played. I'm now lvl 20 on Ysera, last night I did an elite quest called the Wailing Caverns, in The Barrens. The cavern dungeon is absolutely beautiful and a great challenge for a group of 5 18-20ish ppl. In EQ there was NEVER a lower level dungeon that was as cool looking or challenging as this was. It was the first Elite quest I've done and the first true dungeon I've been in in WoW. I can't even imagine how awesome some of the later level dungeons are. I'll post some screns later, but I need to go and see if the servers are back up so I can level and keep my hopes up that I might get one of those top 3 horde druid spots on my server...There's about 5 other 20ish druids so I may not make it but it's fun just trying.
Oh look at me and my ability to play WoW! I hate you!
You could have EASILY played stress test. I paid the 13$ to subscribe to fileplanet to get the 7 day beta and it was well worth it. You could have done that if you wanted, but you didn't did you?!?!?!?
Kev, that dungeon SUCKS compared to the alliance low level instance called Deadmines. So if that blew your mind ^^ good things to come.
It may suck compared to Deadmines, but it is awesome anyhow. Now I want to roll a alliance and do Deadmines though
It is really gonna suck when stress test ends. I am going to be sulking for MONTHS. I really love the low level game so far; I am hooked, but it is going to be painful to lose it after one week and not see it again until open beta or release. The "Better to have loved and lost..." line probably doesn't apply to addictive substances like heroine, cocaine, cigarettes, and WoW!
Well when you put it that way, maybe it's better I'm not in the stress test. Being able to play it for 7 days, then have it go *poof* (till the open beta), well, that would suck.
Kev, you can head to SIlverpine forest and do Shadowfang keep, another awesome instance. You can do deadmines as a horde but its a rather long run for a group ^^.
I'd visit those places, but right now I'm concentrating completely on leveling. I'm a lvl 22 tauren druid atm, and tied with another lvl 22 druid for the 3rd place spot on my server, who I think I've been gaining on and may have passed in exp, but I gotta keep cranking it out for 2 more days. Hopefully I'll be seeing you real beta testers soon enough!
If anyone has any reccomendations for a hunting spot for a 22 tauren druid, please do tell. Rigt now I'm focusing less on quests(especially if they mean travelling 30mins back and forth) and more on just killing shit. I've been slaughtering the south barrens Bael'Dun dwarves lately, but dunno if I could be doing something better.

It's only 4 spots per class per side for all of the servers together right? Are you third on your server or for all of the servers?

Sadly your right, in part. I have a fileplanet account. But I'm not from North America, everytime I clicked to DL it all I got was "This is only avialable to North America"
There a competition (from what Im aware) something about, once your Stress Test is finished you can keep it on. Probably like the first people to get max level.
It could be that the only purpose for your every existence, is to serve as a warning to others.

It is the three highest level characters per class per faction per server. They are giving out 576 beta slots through this contest.
The hubby and I went over to a friend's house last night. We just learned that he got into the stress test. I got to play around for about an hour. LOVE IT! I can't wait till open beta!!!!
Yeah, it's pretty fun even thru the noobie levels. I'd be through the noob levels if I could connect to the fucking game

I got it, had time to play for like, an hour and a half yesterday. It looks fun, I won't lie, if not somewhat crowded. Playing as an undead warrior - don't expect to play past sunday, but I'll keep it installed incase I get an invitation to the next stage of beta.
It's fun, but the graphics are so.. agh. I mean, they're good, at the same time, they feel like they're four years old.

It's not so much childish, it's stylized and a bit cartoonish I suppose. I think calling it cartoonish is misleading, though somewhat accurate...it's almost more like a painting. The whole world is based off the art work and direction of people like Samwise, their lead artist since WC3 I believe.
He is one of my all-time favorite fantasy artists, he's really got a very distinct style which I think is amazingly.
I think it's far more impressive to take a lower end graphic engine and make it look amazing, than to take a more advanced engine and make it look...bleh
edit: err i posted a bunch of direct images but they changed to red x's
Måste ligga i hårt med Grakken för att få en sådan bräda.. minns att grakken hade en lite ölmage allt.. DU MÅSTE MAXXA MED VIKTERNA GRAKK! DOM ÄR PAPPER! FOKUSERA!
Pretty much everything out there now is ~$15/month.
