And out goes the Dream Team..

Post by Kelshara »

Well deserved victory by Argentina.. Ginobeli is insane! The refs sucked but it seemed to go both ways. US lost by poor defense and once again problems with the 3-point shot.

Yes Argentina played a hell of a game, I just hope and pray that this wakes up the US to send a real dream team to the olympics next time.

It goes to note that the Argentinian team has a long history of playing together as well.. they are a true team with a couple of superstars. I still believe that is truly the way to go, and not just a team of superstars.

Balance is the key.

Oh and I will say it again.. Ginobeli was insane!

Agree but I still think the US needs to wake up on who they send.

I think I would pick any guard that can shoot .500 or anywhere in the vicinity. Truly a horribly picked team by USA basketball....and everyone who knew anything about basketball said as much before this debacle started.

still no excuse.

there are only 2 or 3 other players in the whole tournament that would even be good enough to get playing time on this team.

That would be true IF this was NBA rules. International basketball is not similar at all to NBA basketball rules. The zones played internationally force you to have good outside shooters....and it really takes away from the inside game. A zone will collapse on a big man with the ball inside....and he can force it up or he can kick it out to an open man on the perimeter for an open 3. The international teams have shooters who can shoot near 50% consistently. The U.S. team in its current form does not.

I seriously beleive that leaving AI and Marbury at home and bringing a Michael Redd and any other good outside shooter would have turned these games into a bloodbath and a gold.

I wouldn't have left AI, wether people like him or not he has been one of the best players in every game.. both on offense and defense. LeBron shouldn't have been there, Okafor and Carmelo most likely shouldn't have been there..

Interesting to hear LeBron after game when he was asked how the locker room was. "We were shocked but not disappointed". I guess they enjoyed their vacation to Greece.

Lebron has a better outside shot than AI. I still would not have picked him either. Again, I would have stocked up on serious outside shooters over someone who can penetrate. You can't penetrate a zone when they are going to pack it in tight and leave you to shoot wide open 3's.

just answer this question: is the high screen and roll illegal in the NBA?

cause these dudes ran that high school move all day on these NBA guys.

"we were shocked but not disappionted"

that sums up the problem with these guys right there. i couldnt have summed it up any better.

heh LeBron can't shoot for shit from distance.. and with a good 3-point shooter opposte him AI could pass more which he is damn good at. Plus he plays damn good defense, which the team lacked as well.

Not illegal Voronwe but the shorter 3-point line is something they never got used to. Aka, they went under on screens instead of over them. Stupid of them to not get it into their heads that they had to go over since every commentator has mentioned it and I am sure Larry Brown and Pop did as well.

Man, that is an awful lot of losing to still get to play again for bronze.... I think the basketball team should get a macaroni-fashioned medal for coming it out and giving it a shot! ;) You guys are still winners with us!

Congrats to Argentina on the gold, really they deserve it, they've been the best international team for the last few years. They started the U.S. downfall in the World Championships. At least a Spur was part of the gold medal team, even if it wasn't Tim Duncan.

Was nice to see the joy on their faces and how much pride they take in representing their country. They are a true team.

Under the rules of the NBA, no one in the world would still be able to beat the U.S. That does make them world champions of that ruleset for basketball. It is international rules that make use of actual team skills that screws up the showboats.

Is the goaltending rule in international rules stricter than the NCAA one?
