Now this is a man who truly deserves the title of "Hero". 2000 fires handled through 35 years.. and not a single man lost in what must be one of the most dangerous occupations possible. I know he is credited for more or less saving the oil business back home in 1977 when he fought the oil and gas fire on the Bravo-platform, and the work he did in Kuwait in 1991 and after the explosion on the British Piper-Alpha platform (where 167 people died) raised him to hero status around the world.
Truly a great man has moved on, and hopefully his self-proclaimed deal with the Devil works out: "I made a deal with the Devil. He said he would give me a room with AC if I ended up down there so I wouldn't quench all his fires".
A very proud texan who made an assload of money in an industry that, before he came along, was riddled with death because there were no safety precautions.
Wow, and he managed it all in spite of being from Texas!
Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable, let's prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all. - Douglas Adams
