Garden State

Post by Rivera Bladestrike »

This film from the Sundance festival I saw the other day called Garden State staring Natalie Portman and some other guy, excellent movie. I live IN new jersey and it was only playing in like 3 theatres in the entire state. However despite its rare showings, the movie is simply fantastic. See it with anyone, however its probably more benefitial with a spouse. I highly recommend it.

Saw the trailer, seems like an interesting indie movie.

great movie, good debut for him as a writer/director

i saw the preview like 4 months ago or something insane like that and was looking forward to it sense

some beautiful camera shorts, awsome acting all around

from what i read of an article i believe OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of the movie is made up of tidbits hes jotted down and overheard conversation type things about nj

its not hugely indie, but definately not a hollywood movie

Just saw this today and I really enjoyed it. It was very well crafted, the sound track really helped to enjoy the movie. The acting was outstanding. I would say it's one of the best debuts by a writer/director in while.

One of the best movies, if not the best movie I've seen this year. Absolutely loved the characters and the themes and the way the scenes were shot was beautiful. The whole movie and the music throughout it was awesome. I felt I could relate to the characters, especially the main character. I came out of the theatre with more positive energy than when I went in. It is a feel-good movie, but in a unique way that I really could relate to.

If I had to rate this movie from 1-10, I'd give it an 11.

I rented this and watched it last night. What a wonderful little movie. The writing/acting was superb. Both Zach Braff and Natalie Portman were wonderful in the movie.

There were so many thoughts coming from Natalie Portman's character that I could relate to. And the soundtrack is great too. Highly recommended.

Rented it a couple days ago. It isn't a bad movie but I didn't consider that great either. I found the characters to be a bit annoying and the movie kind of dragged for me.

Based on the trend of the reviews here, I'll check this movie out. It doesn't hurt that Natalie Portman's in it and I need to see a good movie with her in it to eradicate my memories of the star wars fiasco.

Dont worry, Nathalie Portman swimming around in a bikini > Star Wars :)

A very anal retentive co-worker of mine rented this last night and watched it...on my recommendation. I asked her how she liked it. She told me:

"Worst move I have ever seen."

I said "Really?!"

She "I just don't get it. People don't act like that in real life."

I said, "Yes they really do. There were many things and lines of thought that I could relate to on a very personal level"

She said, "Then I feel sorry for you for having such a messed up life"

I said, "Really? I was just thinking the same thing about you"

She hasn't said a word to me all day...

Moon,

I'd be interested to hear what she thinks of as good realistic movies.

and she said garden state wasn't realistic?..... lol...

speed + realism = exploding bus
the net + realism = 404 Not Found
hope floats + realism = single mom forevaaa

that said, i think sandra bullock is much better than just a mediocre actress, but maybe thats because i find her so attractive.

Watched this last night with the wife. She thought it was stupid and boring. I enjoyed it a lot. The acting was really good. I enjoyed the relationship between Large and Sam.

As far as realism? I would say many aspects of that movie are far from reality. But, I don't watch movies and think of those things. I watch movies to escape reality. Reality is boring.

I recommend this movie highly.
