Wasn’t he the one that bitched about hillary Clinton running for Senate to represent a state she has never lived in nor new much about? Now his ass, with the opportunity goes around and does the same?

Heh I remember agreeing with Keyes when he said that, now look at him. Someone needs to quote that for him on live television so we can see him choke.
edit- HAHA, watching him live on CNN right now and he just got asked that very same question! He says he is doing it differently than Hillary did. He says state sovereignty comes second to doing whats best for the nation, WHAT A SCUMBAG!

I've got nothing against Keyes but shouldn't a Senator BE from the state he/she plans to represent? If I were Illinoisian I would be offended by the Republicans bringing in this outsider.

The Republicans had two options in Illinois. They could either have left the space open so it appeared that Obama would win uncontested. Then the concerted attack against his ability to run a campaign against an actual opponent would begin. Or, they could run a black man against him, therefore showing the voters of Illinois that they do care about the minority vote. Now, instead of one black who brought himself up from middle class America to politics running against a wealthy white guy, it's two blacks. No longer can the race card apply. It's really rather ingenious, until you realize who the Republicans are running and then want to shoot yourself in the face. He might as well rename himself Alan Ryan to fit right in with the Republicans in Illinois.
that and, by having him have some opposition, Obama can't spend as much of his campaign dollars and time on the national level on Kerry's behalf.
So the Republicans had to do something, and Keyes is taking one for the team for sure, because Obama is a very energizing figure, and the GOP wants to keep him as occupied as they can in Illinois, which is smart.

I hadn't thought of the angle about keeping Obama busy locally and thus out of the national picture. Very good point of view.Voronwë wrote:that and, by having him have some opposition, Obama can't spend as much of his campaign dollars and time on the national level on Kerry's behalf.

It still backfires that they chose an obvious hypocrite for the job.
