What will you do?

Post by Asheran Mojomaster »

If, God Forbid, Bush wins, what do you guys plan on doing? I have a feeling that if he wins I'm gonna end up going to college out of country, maybe in Germany or somewhere like that. No way I am gonna stay here cause I know that if he decides its time to invade Iran\North Korea\some random country that pisses him off in some small way then my ass is gonna be one of the first people drafted, since I will be an 18-22 (depending on when he invades) year old male.

Dude, get a grip. Lay off the hippie lettuce and stay away from those liberal web sites. There's not going to be a draft.

I realize it's easy to get liberal types on this board all paranoid and it's entertaining but don't start making your college plans based on this. Bush most likely will be back in the White House for a second term but nothing dramatic is going to change regarding the military. A draft isn't happening unless the US mainland is attacked or the rest of Canada is taken over by Quebec.

Eh, we'll get by. The US has survived worse presidents.

I'd respect leaving to make a statement, but honestly you won't be safer as an ex-pat (unless you are draft age).

Well, I might not go over there just if he is elected, but I dont want to stick around if he decides to fuck with another country, cause there is no way we can take on another country without completely pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan or have a draft.

BTW, thats not the only reason I want to go there to school anyway, I was considering doing it anyway, I want to travel as much as I possibly can. That would be just enough to actually spur me to do it.

There's nothing wrong with going overseas to study. I was in Switzerland for a year while Reagan was strengthening our country. I registered with the selective service on my 18th birthday though!

I don't know why you'd think you'd be safer overseas no matter what happens. I just missed, by a day, being in the Rome airport when terrorists chucked a few grenades at the people standing in line at Israeli Airlines terminal in the 80's.

You're screwed no matter where you go!

Not safer so much as not here if there is a draft. Anyway, I'm not afraid to die, I'm actually not afraid to go into the military if my country really needed me, I just would not be in the military under Bush, not right now at least when the whole world hates us and its completely possible that this psycho will end up attacking yet ANOTHER country.

I think "get a grip" is pretty appropriate here!

I'll stay in the states. I'll continue to go to college. I'll continue to work at my part time job that doesn't pay enough to keep me happy. I'll continue to log onto my computer.

If there's a draft, and I am drafted, I will fight. I will train, and I will kill, and I will be shot at and I may be crippled and I may very dell die. Whatever happens will happen and there's not a damn thing I can do about it, so I'm not going to sit around and cry about it waiting for it to happen.

Similar deal Ash, im debating weather or not to go back to school in europe as well, leaning towards that scenario more then any other. GW being re-elected will influence my decision a little, but i will most likely just bitch a lot.

Either way i dont think he will be re-elected. After all this country has been threw...911, wars etc ANY other president would be re-elected with at least a 75% approval rating, considering our time weather it have been Gore, McCain or almost anyone else. It takes a real fuck up in this day in age to be in Bush's position, by the debates, and an increasing audience turing towards Kerry, i think theres at least a 75% chance he will be our next president

I highly enourage anyone here regardless of the situation, if it comes down to a draft, dont go, for the love of yourself, dont go...unless its for a war you truly believe in, and in that case sign up, dont let the government sign you up. You will be national cannonfodder, thats all dratees are, they arnt trained to fight, there abosultly inferior on the battlefield to real soldiers , and will most likely be treated as such. When a country starts forcing its citizens to fight against there will, it is no longer a free country.

Honestly, I don't think there will ever be another draft in the United States. The amount of people who would oppose a draft being reinstated is staggering.

I think I'll sit at my desk at 6am and read the boards and laugh at the frothing madness of antibush posts that will ensue. Then i'll go to lunch and eat a turkey sandwich with some chips, maybe i'll have a cookie too.

I am still waiting for Alec Baldwin to leave and to take his horrible actor brothers with him. He said he would leave the country if Bush was elected but he is still here.

What if war comes to the country you decide to go to school in? Wouldn't it be nicer to scream and actually have people understand what you are screaming?

Hahaha, sorry about this, I got really stoned when I wrote this and was all freaked out about war and decided to post. Anyway, I really have been considering going overseas to college, but unless I could get some sort of scholarship for it, it is going to end up being way too expensive. Will prolly end up just going to Auburn.

If you have the opportunity I would highly recomend it. Youl have a fucking blast anywhere in Europe, its a great opportunity to live abroad, as everyone should do for a few years, and get a great education as well as recognition for future job applications
Still debaiting on going back to school (int. Business :? ) some place in Europe. Im thinking scandinavia, but maybe germany or SE spain

Oxford has built a very nice School of Business; they were working on it in my third and fourth years. I hear it actually quite a nice set of courses that they offer. It is a nice city to live in, but the weather is less than ideal (read: worse than Seattle)

On a side note.. I personally would tell anyone with a chanceof travelling/going to school abroad to grab the opportunity. I have always argued that people need to see more of the world to understand things better, to be more open minded and to live better lives. With the US being so big and it being so expensive to go abroad, you really should grab every chance you get at travelling.
