OK, second son due any day and we are still undecided on the name so I thought I would ask you guys as well Our first son is named Joseph. Much of my wife's family is Irish so we are leaning towards those but tell me what ya think!

Ian or Nicholas or both. Do the kid a favour and use a name which is easy to pronounce in different languages. I sure as hell wish my parents named me with something an American can prnounce.
I kinda like Gabriel of the ones listed. Harrison would be a close second, but as someone said, you need to put all the names together and see how they sound/look all put together, as well as minding any acronyms the names may make (My mom's initials post marriage are JAP).
IMO Seamus is a tough moniker to hang on a kid born in the USA.
I choose Ian cuz its short sweet and girls and spell it w/o fail. If you were asking for another opinion on names i would choose...Preston just because its unusally odd
Cool, thanks for all the responses so far. Ian has been our first choice until recently because in the South I was afraid that too many people (redneck teachers as well) would mis-pronounce Seamus. However a friend of mine in Chicago almost has me convinced it won't matter... of course in Chicago, in a predominatly Irish neighborhood there are a lot of people names Seamus. Also I thought Kylere's post was interesting considering my wife's name is Marley
You should name him Scratch Fury, Destroyer of Worlds.

My wife liked Gabriel as well for our kid and I shot it down. I just don't like the name. As a victim in my youth of having a feminine name, I am especially sensitive to how a name can impact a person's life early on. I would go with Ian out of that list.
Whats with the yuppy gay names? You gotta choose a name that he'll be proud of, not eventually hate and have everyone call him by his last name. A MANS name. Like Chuck Steak or Biff Webster, something that you don't mess with. A guy named Seamus is a sure thing wus, he'll be an interior decorator for sure. You gotta think for a name that your son will enjoy and not hate, which is appropriate for school age as well as adulthood.
- Seamus, awful
- Gabriel is terrible. Gabe just isn't a name for any of the past like 3 generations so drop it.
- Harrison is decent, not the best not the worst, its alright, Harry isn't that great of a name in my opinion but its no Seamus.
- Nicholas, good name, it works, as a kid Nicky and Nick both work well and still hold their masculinity.
- Ian is alright, not as good as Nick.
All in all, people have to stop trying to be all creative and giving their kids faggoty names like Tucker, Tyler, Cody, Preston. You have to stick with the good names like Joe, John, Jay, Mike, Tony, Ryan, Eddy.
Eddy is an underused and classic name that is never mistaken for something other than manly.
Actually the reason we liked Seamus is because the few people I know named that are big burley beat-the-shit out of you type guys, can't really think of a more "manly" Irish name actually IMHO. Can't use Sean, John, Joseph or Ken because I have too many close friends named that. My first son is named Joseph and is Godfather is named John so... that is where we got Ian.
Ian is still our first choice but you guys have brought up a LOT of good points to think about. We will be how he looks when he is born before making the final decision.
Thanks for all the responses!
Marb
Of course I'll keep checking to see if anything is added as well.
Or for those who pay no attention to the language they speak and don't know what a hard a is, think of it as shaymus. I have a friend named Seamus, we just call him Shay. I've always thought it was a kind of kickass name, really unique at least up here. Plus the fact that he's one laid back, funny bastard helps.
Man, I didn't even realize that's how Seamus was pronounced until I played Doom III. I picked up the PDA of the Irish guy named Seamus and listened to his audio log, heh. Sad, isn't it?
Big gratz Seebs! When I didn't hear back from you on email after talking with your wife I thought something may have happend Good to hear you guys are still rockin' along!
Drasta, ya, being in Arkansas the whole moron factor is what worries me about Seamus otherwise I think we would choose it. Still probably going to be Ian at this point but we aren't sure yet... just want to get him here right now
