Try looking at it from a different perspective. Who do you think they are talking about when they talk discrimination? It is always white men vs. whichever minority group. In the past I would say that this was bullshit too because way back in the day the world seemed to revolve around whatever the white man wanted. Those were our grandfathers and great grandfathers, not us. The sins of the father are visited on the son. Today we have more groups out there advocating equal rights and diversity and political correctness than there ever were before and I am happy for that.

All I am trying to say or get across is that when there is discrimination against a group it always seems to be the white man being the villan. Maybe it is deserved but as we are asked not to lump people into a great big stereotype please do the same.

As for the being single and without children part, that was basically the category when I worked in an insurance company dominated by women.

It's all a big vicious cycle I guess. The more we fight to end discrimination the more we tend to discriminate.

I am sure that my statement is riddled with flawed logic ( I only minored in philosophy and then only by accident) so put your big minds together and tear me apart and in the process boost your sense of self worth because you are so smart on a board. (not aimed at anyone inparticular) This is not a rant so much as my opinion, and like assholes, everyone has one.

Hmm, well, from MY experience, and yes I am a black man and a very successful one at that...You take a black man and a white man, same IQ, same qualifications, same positive attitude, and with todays liberals running rampant, the black man will come out on top most everytime. I agree, you take a black and white man who are equal in every category, and the white guy is left twisting in the wind. I have seen this, many times as well as racism against blacks (less so believe it or not)...and from my experience, the white guy gets shafted ten times more than the brotha. Liberals have OVER-compensated for us. Call me a sell out, whatever, I speak the truth so kiss my ass...work hard as a black man and you get what's due you, or you can fail and blame it on everyone else, it's up to you. Worse yet, don't even TRY..THEN blame your failure on everyone else. Time to carry your own weight. STFU and work hard already. And for all the white guys out there getting the 9 inch shaft day in and day out....blame the liberals.

I agree with Bubba and Krimson on their posts. I worked for a fortune 500 company for three years as a computer consultant. I started out as a contractor and worked my ass off really hard and was able to beg my way into a job because I believe I was skilled enough to earn it. They filled all the other spots with only minorities. Of the 6 people they hired, only one was actually qualified for the job. It ended up leaving him and I to do the work of the rest of the team. My boss told me that they had interviewed at least a dozen white candidates with better resumes and she had recommended several of them instead but when the list got up "top", they chose to hire based on color of skin or sex. I quit 6 months later.

I am of the opinion that race or sex shouldn't even be a question on any application of any kind. You should get where you are going on pure merits and hard work. I really respect minorities who make it because I think they are told their entire lives that they have no chance to make it and do anyway. Affirmative action does not work. Parents need to tell their kids that they can make it if they work hard, not that the White Man is going to keep them down their entire lives and wait for reparations to come through.

If I have to hear about one more minority family complaining about not being able to afford college then I will shoot myself. There are so many programs directed at them that they can practically write their own ticket to any college they choose so long as they didn't spend high school screwing off. I, as a white male, was very lucky to get the college loans and grants I did because my mother was on welfare. I know for a fact that Bubba didn't have that though and instead graduated with $40k in loan debt, for a bachelor's degree. My wife luckily had a rich uncle who paid her tuition or she never would of gone to college. Her parents owned a farm and her dad only makes $50k a year. Trying paying for college on that and getting ready for retirement.

Last point. Why is it ok to have the NAACP and other minority based groups but if I wanted to start up a "White Men Are Great" group then I am called a racist? I will never understand that.

Krimson's correct. When I worked at Motorola we had racial profiling. When the time came for promotions they'd look at the racial make up of the position.

For example, if there were 10 program managers in a certain department with one of the positions available and all 9 of the current managers happend to be white males, ANY applicant that was female or non white would get the position almost without question.

There were specific percentages for women and ethnic backgrounds for each job position. While I'm all for equal opportunity, this has to be the lamest thing I've witnessed. Motorola's upper managerment was 95% white males though so I suppose they had to force themselves into a change.

In agreement with Krimson, competence and hard work will get you where you want to be.

On a side note, while I was at Motorola I wrote this book off as a business expense:

What makes her such and authority on everything and why does everything around her suck so much. 19th Amendment - (this is straight from the Constitution itself) The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any Sate on account of sex.

Vet is correct that the Constitution does not explicitly say that slaves could not vote, but slaves were counted as 3/5 (three-fifths) of a vote instead. Part of this little thing called the GREAT COMPROMISE.

The 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment state that they cannot descriminate by race. Just for flavor, here's part of the 15th amendment!

15th Amendment - The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Actually, the Great Compromise, if I'm thinking of the same thing as you are, was merely urged into law by the smaller states (population wise--New Jersey, Georgia, Rhode Island, etc..) during the formation of the US. They were in fear that the larger states (Massachusetts, Virginia, New York) would dominate the new government being made, and wanted a way to raise their population. So, 50 slaves would count as a population of 30. It really had nothing to do with voting.

vetira, and those fears of population had to do with representation. The more populous your state was, the more representation you attained, so in a way, it WAS about voting. But ONLY elected official voting, etc...not the citizens.

IIRC though, later on in the history of the states, the 3/5 WAS used in voting as the slaveowner would add all the 3/5's to whoever they voted for. I think that was outlawed very quickly, and I could be totally confusing that with something else, as I am thoroughly hung over.

Okay the Great Compromise included Slavery, Trade, and Presidency.

The Slave count was used so they could have more representation in the house of representatives. Trade meant that the gov't could not tax exports. And for Presidency, they made it so state electors would vote for president. These electors are elected by the people, therefore the people (in a form) vote for president!
