Sprains/Rolling your ankles

Post by sweetkastings »

Well I play soccer (Futbal in some cases) and while at a Tournment I rolled my ankle. I was wondering what the best thing to do is, to make sure I don't injure myself, and ruin my career.

I was told to R.I.C.E. my ankle.

Rest
Ice
Commpression
Elevation

Any other tips, hints, whatever will be appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

all you can do for something like that is ice it and take ibuprofin.

you might want to invest an ankle brace and tape it up when you start playing again, to avoid re-injury.

To injure yourself and ruin your career?
Go over to the football team and say "I love you guys."

Now, if you're looking to RECOVER..
Pretty much RICE it. Don't spend much time sitting at the comp unless you can keep your foot elevated somehow. If you MUST do a OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of walking, a crutch may not be a horrible idea, if only to provide some support.

Note that any tearing / extreme strain on your ligaments will leave them looser than before. This basically means that once you've had an injury of that kind, odds are it will happen again. So - tape it up, use support etc. and be careful. And don't strain your ankle too soon.

You have four screws in your knee? Why the hell are you playing sports still? Do you WANT to enjoy arthritis in 3, 4 years down the road?

RICE for sure, keep the damn thing elevated and stay off it for a couple of days. Then walk through the pain with support on it, you have to "rebuild" it. Couple of things:

- If there is ANY chance of it being more than a sprain get it x-rayed. I walked on what I thought was a sprained ankle for a day until I finally got it x-rayed and it was broken heh.

- Don't put ice directly on your ankle unless you want frostbite, and don't keep the ice on it for too long at a time.

- Get a support for it. I have two busted ankles, two busted knees (one that will require surgery most likely) and a busted wrist from sports.. whenever I do anything but light running now I have to tape ankles or use supoort. I have a really nifty ankle support thingie though, not seen anything like it here in the US.
