Great option too. Of course if Clinton had attacked someone and went to Afghanistan after the 6th or 7th attack by Al Qaeda, we would still have two towers standing in New York City.

Kilmoll, you know that there was no way we were going to get the support from Pakistan needed to invade Afghanistan prior to 9/11. Let alone Uzbekistan or any other place from where we could stage operations. sure we could send many million dollar missiles over to blow up tents - to paraphrase Mr. Rumsfeld - but there was no way anybody was going to support us invading that country and toppling the regime.

and frankly i'm not sure lobbing cruise missiles into that area would have been that wise since there were some pretty heated nuclear tensions between India and Pakistan at the time.

more special operations on the ground would have been good, but they still need a place to supply from and some sort of base of operations.

prior to 9/11 Pakistan was not going to give us any of that, and Iran still won't, and i'm not sure Uzbekistan would have liked to have seen a revisitation of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

They knew exactly where Bin Laden was at that time. They could have taken special forces in and eliminated him without much question. Clinton didn't really care....he was too worried about getting impeached to deal with problems.

I didn't say invade Afghanistan. Covert Ops, Tomahawks, etc. Clinton could have made more timely decisions on air strikes and been more aware of the potential threats.
