I watched this movie last night. It's a Bladerunner type movie set in the future. Tim Robbins plays a sort of mind reader detective type that can tell what people are thinking if they talk about themselves for awhile.
Code 46 is the term used for illegal pregnancies. It's all about genetics in the future. Another theme in the movie is needing "cover" to move between cities. The last thing to know about the movie are that mental "virus" are available that Tim uses to read minds but they can be used to program people for various things as well.
Tim Robbins falls for a lady that is stealing "cover" IDs and giving them to people that aren't genetically able to receive them. Robbins ends up knocking up this woman. He goes home to his wife then finds out that the woman got pregnant, it was a code 46, she got an abortion and they removed all memory of Tim Robbins from her mind.
On top of this, a mental "virus" was placed in her so although she ends up liking Tim Robbins again, her body refuses to mate with his. She still wants to have sex so this leads to a scene where he ties her down in order to have sex with her because although she wants it her body is violently refusing him. This scene also provides a shaved muff shot which is completely out of character for the rest of the movie which could have been rated PG.
What happens afterwards it that her "virus" automatically programs her to contact authorities and inform them that she violated Code 46.
It's an odd movie. It's near futuristic which means most things look like they do today except for the crowded city/small apartment look and Gattaca genetic type access to everything.
It's a good thinker movie and Tim Robbins always does a good job but I would only recommend it if you are desparate for a movie and are looking for this kind of storyline. It had the potential to be a cult type classic but falls short on story and acting from everyone but Tim Robbins.
Some stuff is spoiler type info but I don't expect anyone to see it anyway!
