How does this happen?

Winners and losers
July 22, 2004 WL0722
THE WINNERS

Prince at Xcel Energy Center, June 16-18. Attendance: 20,000 per night.

Shania Twain at Xcel June 4. Attendance: 19,918.

Eric Clapton at Xcel last Sunday. Attendance: 15,613.

Hilary Duff at Target Center Aug. 1. Nearly sold out.
THE LOSERS

American Idols at Xcel Energy Center, Wednesday night. Attendance: 5,000.

Kiss at Float-Rite Park, Somerset, Wis., June 26. Attendance: 6,000.

Evanescence at Target Center July 13. Attendance: 8,000.

Sting at Target Center Tuesday. Attendance: 8,000.
Concert seating at Xcel and Target Center varies with stage setup but averages 19,000.

Hillary Duff draws 19,000 ppl to see her and Sting only draws 8,000?

Prolly has to do with the fact that one concert is for teenagers or younger on a sunday night during the summer and the other is mostly older working people during the week.

But, yeah, I see the problem~

You're mistaking popularity for quality.

Prince nearly sold out. I don't see the problem here.

I'm personally not a bit Sting fan myself. Are the tickets for his show the same as the other acts?

I thought Kiss was done touring. Looking at those numbers they should be!

Sting was much better with the Police. That band could have pumped out many more great albums.

Hillary is popular among kids, or teenagers. Tickets to her only show at the end of July here in Chicago sold out within few hours.

Comparing ticket sales without the per ticket price seems rather pointless too...

It does! That's why I asked. A lot of the 'older' touring people have ridiculously high prices.

I remember being grumpy when ticket prices reached around $20 in the 80's. There's no way in hell that I would pay $60-$250+ to see some 'should have retired 10 years ago but ran out of money' band or musician. It's nice to see live performances, but not worth $60+ for any group/musician imho.
