Man I feel bad for Cavalier fans (Boozer probably leaving)

I read about the Cavs not using their option on Carlos Boozer that would have kept him under contract for another year at around $700,000, and instead were going to give him a new contract for around 6 years and 40 million. I thought wow a team that rewards a player even when they don't have to, it's not completely unheard of I mean look at the Texas Rangers they just signed their young infield to long term contracts when they still had a year or two before going to arbitration.

Then today I read this. I guess no matter how nice or likeable a person is you just can't trust them when it comes down to 28 million dollars, which is the difference between the Cav deal and the Jazz deal.

Although I find it deplorable that Boozer's agent would agree to a handshake deal and then renig, I hardly feel that the Cavs were rewarding Boozer. The Cavs knew that as a free agent next year, his market value would be too high for them so they tried to lock him in now for the most they could afford to give him. If they excersized their option, they would have him for next year, but that's it.

I don't fault Boozer for going after the money, but I agree he should have waited until his contract was up and did it the right way instead of tricking the team into thinking they had a deal.[/quote]

Of course, not sure if I would have left the Cavs if I was Boozer.. LeBron has made him a lot better player and I believe Cavs is a team that will rise FAST.

True, but if they had exercised the option they would have been able to trade him if it didn't look like they were going to have enough money to sign him. Just feel bad for the fans and John Paxon. Oh well lets see how well he does against the big boys in the Midwest.

This irks me on a couple different fronts.

1) The renege on the handshake agreement that released him from the lowball contract. A man is as good as his word and Boozer (along with his agent) has proven his word is shit.

2) How much money do these guys fucking need??? I mean I realize that most athletes careers are measured in years not decades, like most people, but tell me 40 million dollars isn;t enough to live happily ever fucking after on, even after taxes, agents and other shit.

He doesn't want to stay with the Cav's? Fine, agree to the new deal and ask for a trade. He wants more money? Fine, live up to your current contract and then become a free agent. This is the kind of situation where I almost hope for a career ending injury in the off season... Karma would be such a bitch

Well we did invent it...

And to me its not just an NBA or basketball issue as much as a professional sports issue or a business issue in general. Its like the Boss Hawg "the handshake doesn't count cuz my toes were crossed" BS. I think what Booser did is "accepted" in too many areas of our society and we all pay for it. Sport ticket prices have to go up to pay for a large portion of the salaries, so its harder for Joe Average to actually go see the games... and the advertisers are charged more to help share the load, thus they need to charge more for their car/beer/product to get their margin, and so on.
