Bush Contradicted On Iraq & al Qaeda? Or not?

Post by Kylere »

http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=203

Cannot cut and paste on this one, no headlines, merely an analysis of fact versus spin. I cannot find any spin on this site being pro or anti anything except the truth, if someone can I would be glad to see it because as of now I semi rely on them to give me the straight deal.

Check out all their articles, it is amazing how much deception both political sides are practicing. http://www.factcheck.org/default.aspx

George Bush at a campaign fundraiser in October 2002 .... wrote:After September the 11th, we've entered into a new era and a new war. This is a man that we know has had connections with al Qaeda. This is a man [Saddam Hussein] who, in my judgment, would like to use al Qaeda as a forward army. And this is a man that we must deal with for the sake of peace, for the sake of our children's peace.
The liberation of Iraq is a crucial advance in the campaign against terror. We've removed an ally of al Qaeda, and cut off a source of terrorist funding.
So no the White House did not say "Saddam Hussein's government had a 'collaborative' relationship with Al Qaeda".

And The White House still may believe that is the case even though the 9/11 commission believes it is not the case (at this time).

so where does that leave us? well in my view the White House certainly wanted the public to think their was a "collaborative relationship" between Sept 2002 and March 2003 (the buildup to the war). Beyond that maybe the changed their mind.

But if you want to use somebody as a forward army and are an "ally" of somebody, i would suggest that is 'beyond' a "collaborative" relationship. in other words, you can say they weren't technically lieing, but they sure as fuck weren't telling the truth.

Voronwe, umm to put this lightly, umm who cares. At this point I agree with Factcheck that we should wait for the final report.

Unless someone can find a source saying factcheck is not cool.

well the factcheck article acts like the Bush administration never claimed there was a relationship.

I presented quotes that prove otherwise.

So to answer your question of "who cares?". The answer is "you".

since you posted the topic saying whether or not the report contradicts the White House.

As to whether or not factcheck.org is any good. i have no idea. They seem to have neglected the words of the president that i was able to find in about an hour of work.

You trust them more than the White House website for recording transcripts of Bush's speeches?

Haha Thess, great SNL or Jon Stewart iirc. The picture diagrams linking the Q in al-queda and Iraq was hilarious.
