On his own Merit, who would vote for Kerry?
If you believe that Karae you can't see the forest for the trees. Oddly enough his record in the Senate proves that he will not cut taxes but instead will increase them more than Bush sr or Clinton ever did. Kerrys record on tax cuts has always been a 'nay' while for tax increases he has always voted 'yea.' Lets not forget the .50 a gallon gas tax he proposed that thankfully got shot down.

Uhh Kerry never proposed a .50 tax hike on gasoline - however *TEN* years ago he did vote for one. You should reread the quote in your sig Arilain.

Saw this on a bumper sticker, "Vote your hopes, not your fears" I will be voting Libertarian. Whoever says the third party vote is wasted look at Nader and how much he is scaring Kerry right now. Nader didn't get the Green support but he is still a well known name. The race is a dead heat right now and if a third party takes even 1 or 2 percent then it can cost a big party the election.
I don't like Kerry because he is a lifelong politician and in the 20+ years he has been one things have only gotten worse.
I hate Bush for more obvious reasons.
I vote libertarian to ease my conscience.

Kerry was added as a co sponcer in that Bill for the .50 cents tax on gas. Only in the 108th congress (coincidentaly the congress in this election year) has he tried to vote more along party lines. Particulary when the Democratic primaries started up. A horse never changes color as the saying goes, and shame on all of you that think Kerry is not a puppet controlled by his party or doesn't have his best intrests at heart. He is a politician that will even lie to the Unions about getting NAFTA repealed, legislation that he strongly argued for. (From CNN's Archives. Will get a link)
Speaking of links I could put up a dozen, I put up one to the us congress but is you want to look up particular bills you can use the following link to find which particular one to look up. Be warned it is from a biased site.
and one that I would not particularly want to use; however I am too lazy to do 20 hours of going through 500 pieces of legislation and 1000's of bills that never made it anywhere.

I know you are pro-choice Arilain. Stolen from http://www.cakenyc.com (my sisters website). His first 100 days are enough for any logical person (unfortunately you lack that) to see that he is bad for a womans right to choose.
Kerry obviously has had to waffle sometimes due to political expediency. But I would much prefer seeing that to sacrifices in personal integrity, that Bush obviously imprisoned people for crimes he committed (drug use), increased the penalties for those crimes while governor, and has no compunction with awarding no-bid contracts to close political allies for which his Vice President was the CEO.Appointment of Infamous Attorney General John Ashcroft Throughout his career, exhaustive efforts have been made on his part to abolish women's right to choose
Head of the Department of Health and Human Services Appointed- Anti-Choice Tommy Thompson We all know that Thompson revealed his true anti-choice colors as governor and now he's in the hot seat -- giving him the ability to play with poignant reproductive health policies
On the Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Bush Issues Statement of Support for March for Life (anti-choice) participants and states, "The promises of the Declaration of Independence...are for everyoneÑincluding unborn children."
Global 'Gag' Rule Implemented (see CAKE.Politics for full description) On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade Bush reinstated the global 'gag' rule which virtually prohibits international recipients of U.S. financial assistance from engaging in education around issues of family planning or abortion. In other words, all reproductive health discourse should cease. Does he think that this will actually stop people from having sex, from getting pregnant, from opting to abort?
Office for Women's Initiatives and Outreach Closed! Created under President Clinton, this office acted as a liaison between women's groups and the White House administration
Conservative Judicial Nominees Selected The creation of a far right conservative team further tends the soil for anti-choice actions
Faith-Based and Community Initiatives Office Established Pulling on religious strings, Bush declares that public opinion on abortion issues must change
Abolishment of American Bar Association Bush has abolished the ABA's role as impartial reviewer of potential judicial nominees
Secretary Thompson Threatening Stem Cell Research Groundbreaking research that seeks to obliterate life-threatening diseases may be banned under this administration. National Institute of Health guidelines, which currently allow federal funding of embryonic stem cell research when private firms provide the cells, are under review. Decisions will be announced in June.
Declaration by Bush and Thompson to Review the FDA Approved Mifepristone (RU-486) When the administration says 'review' it is a clear indication, in this case in particular, that this will lead to further restrictions on access to the 'abortion' pill OR reversal of its approval
Contraceptive Insurance Benefits for Federal Employees Eliminated In his first budget, Bush put forth eliminating insurance coverage for contraceptives
FY 2002 Budget Allocations Include Increased Funding for Abstinence-Only Education geared toward children ages 12 to 18 (an increase of $10 to $30 million) Statistically insignificant educational materials will be delivered in schools nationwide. Abstinence-only education only serves to silence thousands of rambunctious, sexually curious kids by serving up unrealistic, basic information. Closing our eyes and pretending that kids won't have sex if they hear that they shouldn't is ludicrous and outright risky
Bush Announced That He Will Change Medical Privacy Rule This will result in allowing parents to obtain confidential information on the health services minors receive, including contraception and abortion
You are right Thess, I am pro-choice and very proud of that fact. In many domestic issues I can be (and often called) a liberal. If this were a normal election I might vote becuase of one program or believe. For example only look at enviromental issues only and nothing else. Last election I liked Gore's stance on enviromental issues but not his stance on tax reform. I liked Bush for his tax proposals and not his abortion stance. Luckily I did not get a chance to vote due to work so I did not have to make what I feel is the greatest decision we all (as Americans) make every four years.
This election is different. I think we can all agree with that. My prediction for the aftermath for this election is that many people who were friends will be friends no longer. I hope that is not the case but I see this election divding the country more and more everyday. There are only two people that can stop the division but won't due to blind loyalty to power and party.
So while I would rather vote "for" someone rather than "against them" I have to look at who I can trust. Kerry has gone back and forth on many issues and offers excuses that vary day to day. Such as voting for a pro-life Judg (his excuse was that the judge has other qualifications). From the reasearch I have done on the abortion issue recently (Partial-Birth for example) I feel confident that GW will not get this far-right agenda passed.
In essence I feel that the checks and balances system this governement has in place can prevent Bush from doing more damage. Also that is if Kerry wins the election that we will be in deadlock. Basicly no matter which way we vote nothing will change.
All this election will change is the widening division of our country.
Peace

It's sounds wierd for me to say this, but I have faith in the Supreme Court. The Legislative branch and the Executive branch of our government are complete jokes. If we all want 'REAL' change we all (yeah democrat and republican) have to start on a local level. Let your congressman know that he needs to stop playing politics and do his job. Remember they work for us. The presidents job is only to enforce the laws that congress makes. The closest thing that the president has to do with actually making policy is submitting his/her wish list (budget) to congress every year and letting them decide what he can do.
In my eyes the Repulicans will never be able to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
In the Senate alone there were 17 Democrats that ignored campaign promises to vote for that bill. They were...
Bayh(D-IN)
Bindin(D-DE)
Breaux(D-LA)
Byrd (D-WV)
Carper (D-DE)
Conrad (D-ND)
Daschle (D-SD)
Dorgan (D-ND)
Hollings (D-SC)
Johnson (D-SD)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Leahy (D-VT)
Lincoln (D-AR)
Miller (D-GA)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Reid (D-NV)
The point is we as a nation need to focus on who makes the laws not the figuerhead.

I think the 2000 election was the real fuck up. Sorry but when your brother is the governer of the state in question, when your campaign advisor runs the vote countThis election is different. I think we can all agree with that. My prediction for the aftermath for this election is that many people who were friends will be friends no longer. I hope that is not the case but I see this election divding the country more and more everyday. There are only two people that can stop the division but won't due to blind loyalty to power and party.
Though Florida passed laws and bought voting machines after the 2000 recount that ended in George W. Bush's winning the state by 537 votes...
http://www.tallahassee.com/mld/tallahassee/9022099.htmOn the state's list of 694 supposed Leon County felons to be taken off the voter rolls for that election, Sancho's office could verify that only 34 were actually felons ineligible to vote. Five counties - including Palm Beach, Broward and Duval, three of the state's largest - refused to use the list at all.
The NAACP and other civil-rights groups sued election officials, citing the purge list and other factors that they said denied blacks their voting rights. The lawsuit was settled in 2002, with the state agreeing to restore voters who were improperly removed, implement more stringent criteria for verifying names on future purge lists and create a new position to monitor Florida's compliance with the National Voter Registration Act.
That's 660 people who's vote should have counted, but didn't, in ONE Florida county. Gore lost by 537 votes in all of Florida...
So all 660 would have voted for Gore? Or picked the wrong choice from being idiots?
