A few England players had a poor day (Lampard, Cole, Scholes again) but 3-0 from a so-so performance is good enough for me
The match seemed to play in slow motion a lot of the time and I was infuriated by how often we coughed up possession in midfield.
And I had a good chortle at France. 1-0 then go 2-1 down in 3 minutes? Ooh does that sting? Huh? HUH? Hehehheheheheee.
SO far I've predicted both England results correctly (yup I had us to lose 2-1 to France but being right doesn't make up for the manner of the defeat) and I'm going with 1-1 against Croatia and that'll see us through.

OH WHAT A GOAL!
it will be a huge SWE v. DEN match!
Assuming Italy beats Bulgaria.
Denmark needs to win if Italy wins by 2 or more goals.
Sweden advances automatically with a tie.
Italy obviously needs to win vs. Bulgaria. If they lose, Denmark and Sweden are through regardless of the result of their match.

Now that was a game with great soccer!!!
ZLAAAAATAAAAAAN
Italy totally dominated the first half and the beginning of the second, and with 20 min left they got tired and a Swedish offensive could be created with goal by ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC!
I look forward to Swe - Den. It will probably be a great game to watch!

That group is interesting as hell now: Denmark and Sweden both with 4 points, Italy with 2 but facing Bulgaria in the last match.
Possible situations:
Italy beats Bulgaria, Denmark and Sweden draw: Sweden through, Italy or Denmark through depending on goalscore of the ITA-BUL game.
Italy beats Bulgaria, Sweden beats Denmark: SWE and ITA through.
Italy beats Bulgaria, Denmark beats Sweden: DEN and ITA through.
Italy draws against Bulgaria: Denmark and Sweden through.
Bulgaria beats Italy (hah!): Denmark and Sweden through.
GO BULGARIA!

I haven't seen as much of the competition as I would like (screw you FSW and your whacked out programming) but I did see Sweeden/Italy. If Italy's play that game was representitive of how they always play, I will forever root against them, as they employed a couple of elements I hate in futball: being thugs on defense, and over-over-over-faking injuries. Plus they were off side on their goal, no less.
I was sort of rooting for Sweeden going in, but I went full throttle for Sweeden not too far into the match. I was very happy to see them even it up (indeed - what a goal!). Now I just hope to catch the Sweeden/Denmark game: it should be a great match. And go Bulgaria!

Italy has played like for as long as I have watched the game. Primadonas who turn into whining kids when things don't go their way, and then lash out with physical attacks.

Holland v Czech Rep.! 35 shots on goal! wtf!
Spain out again. Wtf didn't they play Morientes from the start? God-awful match. If the ref was handing out yellow cards for diving there would have only been the goalies left on the pitch at the end.
England Croatia 1-1 tonight.

If I was a soccer coach and managed to get a 2 goal lead, I'd take all of my starters out and bring in some hacks to start kicking shins.

got to love how the Enlgish media is touting him as "Pele II" and "The next Pele".
hmmm....i think Pele had already hoisted the Jules Remet (sp.) trophy by age 17. scoring a few goals in a continental tournament is hardly something to compare to Pele. i mean lets be honest, he might not for his national team if he had happened to be born in Belo Horizonte.
but Rooney is fun to watch =) and obviously extremely talented.
its just the nature of the press to give much more hype to a guy who plays for England (Beckham for example...). Same happens in the US with baseball players who play for New York. The fact that Mickey Mantle is even compared to Willy Mays for example. How often does Henry Aaron get brought up in conversations about the greatest ever? not often. Though he had more HRs and RBIs than anybody else. Ever.

I would just like to interject that if Sweden's soccer team had Nicklas Lidstrom on defense that nobody would ever score goals on them. Ever!
Thanks.

kickoff in 35 minutes.
stupid French-Canadian station that i have been watching some games on is showing Italy v. Bulgaria (takes place at the same time). Yesterday we also had BBC1 (the pay-per-view feed on US satellite/cable), so hopefully they'll be up with Denmark v. Sweden.
should be fun.

unbelievable 10 minutes.
at 2-1 Denmark leading, Italy tied 1-1 w/ bulgaria, and needing a goal to advance to the next stage, they subsitute for the extra attacker. And when that pays off 12 minutes later, literally seconds after italy scores to (in their minds) seal the victory and advance...the final is announced from Porto, SWE 2 DEN 2, literally seconds after the goal.
unreal
