Ikea Survey

Post by noel »

Given that the owner of Ikea is now the richest man in the world, I'm curious how many people here own something from Ikea... I was sitting around the table at lunch today, and everyone at the table owned at least one item from Ikea.

I have a dresser and a bookshelf from Ikea that I bought years ago when I got my first apartment. They are good for folks who can't spend a lot of money on furniture, but their furniture isn't the kind you expect to have forever.

I don't have anything from Ikea (about a 3 hour drive or so towards Seattle for closest one).

It is an interesting store man... You can see one coffee table for $80 and one closeby for $4000! I think the skinny plainy looking stuff they have is mediocre at best, but they do indeed have some good things, albeit you have to dish out the cash.

The girlfriend and I bought a chair and a dresser. The dresser is nice looking but its falling apart due to shitty wood work (nothing a few nails can fix though). But overall, its good cheap stuff.

I have some Ikea, It's really great stuff. The reason it is all so cheap is that you build it yourself. They provide you with all the materials/directions and it always turns out really nice. I have a dinner table w/ 4 chairs, a couple stools, and a bookshelf from Ikea. Putting the things together was fairly easy and well worth the money saved.

No Ikea in metro atlanta, though they are constructing the property where one is scheduled to be leased, opening later this year I believe.

Ok, so this is like the Bush and Sauder that they sell at Sears and Walmart etc...

I have some cheap do-it-you-self stuff, but none by Ikea

Infinitely better than Bush/Sauder furniture. Much sturdier and more durable, more real wood and thick veneers.

I have a lot of Ikea stuff...computer desk, bookcases, CD towers, kitchen table/chairs, TV/video stand, coffee/end tables. Oh and much much <3 for the POÄNG chair.

I looked at forbes.com and they list him as #13...where are we getting that he is the richest man in the world?

some magazine came out with some preposterous theory that since he is the sole owner of ikea, then therefore he is richest man in the world. he came out a couple of days later and said he wasn't even remotely close to the sole owner of the entire company.

he is batshit crazy though. I read he flies economy class when he travels and won't own a cell phone because they cost too much. yeah there is a point where being thrifty is a virtue, but what the fuck is he thinking?

A lot of the stuff is pretty shoddy quality, but still - when you pay $10 for a coffeetable, you know what you're getting.

Some of - quite a large bit, in fact - their stuff is quite decent for the price. The only issue I really have is that too often the design shortcuts aren't visible in their advertising, and then when you see it in teh real wrold it sucks ><.

I own a coffeetable, a couch, a tv-stand, a bunch of shelves and a shitload of kitchenware from IKEA. And all of it was good value for money.

No.....t yet. I've actually considered some of it for better storage capacity. They have some great storage units for cramped apartment dwellers.

A lot of the do it yourself furniture you get at local shops (target, office depot) whatever...are waaaaay too big for aparments. I had a rather hard time shopping around for a desk that was small enough to fit, but still had useable space on it.

rambleramble.

Oddly enough, Ive been eyeballing one of the media storage shelve sets in the skymall magazines. Got to see one in person and am quite impressed, very large capacity, and very small with regards to floor space.

I decked out my entire living room for 100.00! Please, no people over 200lbs may enter my home due to safety regulations and possible furniture collapse.

Ikea has the worst store layout known to man. I shudder at the thought of going there...but then again, my wife loves it.
