Michael Lying Moore back in news

Post by Kylere »

He says that he had the footage of abuse in Iraqi prisons for months before 60 minutes saw it, but he was afraid people would accuse him of using it to promote his movie.

So he is saying he knew it was happening and did NOTHING to stop it. What a lying sack-of-trying-to-make-himself-seem-important-shit.

Lying about this or just a liar in general?
He has a point. If he'd broken the story of prisoner abuse it would have give you and your ilk a big fat out and a nice chance to explain it away.

Umm Tanc, don't be such a dumb ass.

If you knew and had footage of prisoners being abused by American troops and you were Michael Moore nothing would stop you from releasing it.

I disagree. Your personal dislike of the man is clouding your critical faculties.

My dislike of him is based on his actions, like his lies, like this lie.

If you know of human rights abuses and fail to act on the issue to resolve it, then you are equally liable as an accomplice to that activity.

What's that supposed to mean? That you're sitting there, gleefully hoping some right wing retard to grab his 12-gauge from the gunrack in his truck and shoot Moore because he *gasp* dares to have an opinion?

This is a falsehood, Moore lies more than he tells the truth, and when called to task on the truth he says he was only joking,

I tried reading his last book and was only able to get about half way through. There was absolutely no substance. It seemed like he was just shouting hysterically and not saying anything real substantive.

Moore is a tool, and also an attention slave as Adex pointed out. That doesn't mean there isn't some truth or entertainment value to what he says or accuses people of... I completely support his right to say what he feels. I would probably even agree with a lot of it if I could be bothered to waste my time with his books. But that doesn't change that fact that he, himself, needs a good, swift kick in the ass for being such a self-important serial wanker.

I'm pretty liberal and I hate that guy... Don't get me wrong I'm all about satire, and truth but don't mix them to the point where the average idiot thinks what you are saying has some factual basis...

I agree this is just another plea for attention...

Except that Moore isn't running for office. He's using his platform as a director from his success of Roger & Me to put out low-budget liberal spin films under the guise of "documentaries."

Roger & Me was a documentary. Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 are far from. They're propaganda films. Plain and simple. That's not to suggest that there isn't some truth to be found in them, but there's a definate line between documentaries and propaganda films.

Bowling for Columbine blames the 2nd Amendment for the deaths at Columbine. It was done in such a way as to make the film into a summation of the Anti-Gun lobby's position without historical context or approaching the other side of the issue at Columbine. There were just under 16 million high school students in 1999. ( http://www.census.gov/prod/2001pubs/p20-533.pdf ). Because two of them were disturbed enough to shoot up their campus, plant bombs to blow the school up and then kill themselves, every kid who has access to a gun is going to do the same.

As much "secret" shit that gets leaked from the various government organizations and as much investigating as has come from the 9/11 tragedy, I find it extremely hard to believe that Moore has the definitive proof that there were 642 thousand government coverups about the available information about the attacks, the foreknowledge of the attacks, denials, blame and a quick war to divert attention of investigators. The federal investigators have found weaknesses in communication, intelligence, data-gathering and the like already. If there was as much of it going around as Moore claims to have proof of in his film, I'm feeling pretty confident that it would have come out as a summation of the investigation, through media leaks to respectable media services or through reports from the FBI/CIA/Pentagon that would invariably make their way to news sources.

Michael Moore is not the almighty savior of truth and integrity in the American media.

Umm Pahreyia, not to get all on you or anything since you are 99% right, but Roger and Me had more stretches of the truth and outright lies than actual truth.

The single most striking part of Roger and Me was the pets of food deal, it was filmed outside of Flint and he gave her a script of things to say. Not to mention he almost entirely reversed the timeline. Not to mention he blamed GM because it would have been unpopular to blame the UAW and the workers who were in the fault more than GM was, etc.

this is an undisputable fact. :)

all he is doing is generating PR for his movie, which is working. He throws out bait to the people who already hate him (kylere in this instance), and they run with it and can't stop talking about it.

it gets Fahrenheit 9/11 mentioned on conservative talk radio to millions of ears daily. speaking of which, i saw the first TV spot for it last night on Comedy Central. 6/25 i think.

as for whether or not he saw the images, sounds like BS. but the story was "broken" to the US government last Oct/Nov by the Red Cross, and in January the Pentagon issued public statements regarding investigations into the abuses etc. Of course we all see the difference the photographs make in impressing upon the public the gravity of the story.

Actually "Bowling" was probably his most balanced docu (if that's saying anything). And it certainly didn't blame guns for the Columbine shootings, or the 2nd amendment. In fact, it all but cleared guns themselves of the blame (pointing out all the other countries in the world where guns are readily available.. including canada), focussing more on what a complex issue it is, and how many factors are involved in these tragedies. He took shots at gun-nuts and the NRA, but those have nothing to do with the 2nd amendment.

No it dosen't. Your opinions on a topic tend to go downhill when you start them with a statement that is flagrantly wrong . Anyone who actually saw the film would know your statment couldn't be further from the truth. For instance, I know Niffoni actually saw the movie. If you did, and the above is your take, then you are a fucking moron.

Okay so lets say he is not lying, then that makes him complicit in anything that occured after he had a chance to make the public aware of it.

Either way, he is a liar.

what are you talking about? The US government knew about this last fall, and so did the Red Cross, and so did the CIA, the Military Intelligence Agency, whatever secret ad-hoc organization in the Pentagon under Cambone was called, George Bush (since his attourney briefed him on the consequences)...

how is what happened Michael Moore's fault?! he has as much to do with Abu Ghraib as you or I do.

Why not Forthe? he presents himself as being better than them, so he should actually be better. Just like fatass Limbaugh with his drug addiction.

Have you ever noticed how much they look alike.

And Voronwe, if you have knowledge and evidence of a crime being commited it is expected that you let people know, the country did not know, Michael Moore says he did ( I think he is lying, because there is no way in hell he would sit on a chance to make Bush look bad, hell he even backed a republican who was lying about his politics to be the democratic choice to be antiBush)

Huh? BfC certainly did not lay the blame on Columbine on he 2nd Amendment or on guns. Did you see the film? If anything, it said "hey, lots of other countries have guns (iirc, his stat for guns:people in Canada was twice that of the US), but they aren't killing each other all the time."

His main message was in fact, not a message at all, but a question. He tried to sum up by drawing links to a culture of fear in the US, but even then he was mostly speculating and asking us to ask ourselves - why is the US so violent? In answering that question, BfC rules out broad societal gun possession.

EDIT: oops, need to read more before hitting reply. The above should just say "I agree with Fairweather and Niffoni" :)

Of course not. It's as plain as the nose on your face that the closest most bashers have come to seeing the movie is reading the right-wing rant sites that try to explain it away.

Nonsense, nothing wrong with repeatedly driving the point home to the mouth-breathers here. All 3 of you summed up the film pretty well, not a lot more I can add. Your society dictates your actions. You have a violent society bred on fear and hate, it's not really a surprise to most of us that are looking in. Moore just put it into film form, with a lot of liberties taken of course.
